John Fogerty who was the singer, lead guitarist, and principle songwriter of CCR, he said that the song was about their impending breakup. The imagery is you can have a bright, beautiful, sunny day, and it can be raining at the same time, and I think it was almost 2 yrs later that they broke up!

@chriswhinery925
@chriswhinery925 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheHitmanSF That's... a pretty simple take on what happened. In 1971 John's brother Tom left the band and he said it was because John was basically a control freak. Apparently Stu and Doug had also been complaining that John wouldn't let anyone else write any songs for the band, so after Tom left John finally said "Fine, you know what, fuck it, for the next album all of us will write songs, 3 songs each." That album came out in 1972 and was a failure compared to their other albums. On top of that, the band got completely fucked by their record label, they had what many say is one of the worst deals a band ever made with a label. All of these factors just caused the band to fracture apart, it can't really be blamed on any of them in particular. John would say the band turned their backs on them even though they actually had good reason to be discontent. Stu and Doug and Tom would blame John for being a tyrant, even though their 1972 album made it clear that he was the by far the best songwriter in the group. There's a lot of context and nuance to the story beyond just "the band turned their backs on him".

@@G-grandma_Army Don't buy vinyl. It truly is completely inferior to digital. I say this as one who was born in 1958 and who owned a lot of vinyl. It scratches, develops pops and hiss and warps. Digital has far superior signal to noise ratio, dynamic range and clarity. Plus it never warps, or gets pops and hiss or scratches. Digital is simply superior in every way and is a much better investment. There is this nostalgia for vinyl amongst some groups, but they are just simplistic and don't understand why digital is technically far superior.

It hits me with, patrolling in triple canopy jungle (née rain forest) dark even midday, condensation raining down from the foliage it had gathered on, not a cloud in the sky, 90* with 90% humidity, knowing a firefight can erupt at any time.

There is a video on KZbin of George Thoroughgood interviewing John Fogerty (lead singer and songwriter for CCR) and they explain that this song is about the band breaking up. John could see and feel it coming and put it into words for this song, though he couldn't see he was part of the problem. He said he wished, in hindsight, he had treated his younger brother (the rhythm guitarist for CCR) better but that success had gone to his head and he wouldn't let the other members of the band even sing a song on any of the albums. When this song came out 50 years ago I was only 13 or so. I didn't (and couldn't) understand that this is how life can be when we get arrogant and full of ourselves. We really alienate others and cause problems that can sometimes never be alleviated in this life. This is a great song anyway and one of my favourites from CCR. The music is just so great and we sense that in our hearts and minds even if we can't quite grasp what it is really saying.

First, LOVE CCR!!! John Fogerty’s voice is amazing! Second, this video had to have been made very recently. Two of the main characters from the Amazon Prime series, “The Boys”, are in it. I’m wondering if they’re gonna be using this song in season 3.

Huge fan of CCR. John Fogerty, the singer is from Northern Ca just like me. He went out of his way to sound like he was from the South . It worked. He was such an amazing songwriter.

CCR'S music always reminbd me of Kemmerer,Wyoming. They were at their height and on the radio all the time. I was 16 at the time. So many memories. I lost my boyfriend to the Vietnam war during the time. Sadly,he didnt make it home alive. Gene Schachterle.

I have been hearing that song through different times my whole life and I never could figure out what the meaning was. All I knew is that it had to have meaning beyond seeing rain on a sunny day haha. Now I know. Thanks for the video and cheers.

I got to see John Fogerty sing this and a ton of his other hits at the Red Rocks outside Denver about two years ago. Trust me, that he and his band haven't lost a thing. His voice is the same, and he can still easily hit the high notes. One of my top 10 concerts, and I been doing these since the 60's.
