This is one of Home Free’s masterpieces. Their vocals are so tight, and their blend is just gorgeous. Then there are 2 moments when Tim and Chance hit us with the double bass, the 2nd one being what resembles a bagpipe drone. I only wish that it was longer. I saw someone else in here suggesting “I Can’t Outrun You “- another Chance project, and pure 5 part harmony.

The human voice is the most wonderful instrument of all. Five part harmony, when done well, is magic, and these 5 voices -- each equally beautiful alone -- when blended are greater than the sum of its parts. This is about as perfect as harmonies can be...a masterpiece. The writer was genius and i think it was written by Steven Stills in 1968/69. I know that they (Crosby, Stills & Nash) recorded this and it was the B-side of the 45rpm record for one of their biggest hits, Marrakesh Express (which i highly recommend you react to)

There is no other group out there like them. Yes, Voiceplay is a great theatrical acapella group, and Pentatonics is a great pop acapella group, but Home Free is in a class of their own. I grew up listening to Crosby, Stills & Nash & had their album with this song Helplessly Hoping. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. This song is full of alliterations. Home Free more than does justice to all the songs they cover. And this song is perfection to me with the 5 part harmonies. A true masterpiece! I can't say enough about how great these guys are & humble while still staying respectful to the original song.

This song is one of their shortest. For me that is a good thing as I tend to hold my breath as it plays. As if my breath could break the fragility of the song. It is truly mesmerizing as I get lost in it. It is simple, yet complex. Their song "Winter Song" is another one that feels very similar. Unison singing right down to the audible breaths. It draws you in and soothes. They are masters at what they do.

I'm a writer too (a few of my books have been translated into Dutch). One of HF's songs, Try Everything, has been adopted as my "editing" song. You may see why when you get to that one if your editing goes anything like mine has over the years of my writing career. It was the first song Adam Chance (the baritone) did with group after he joined, replacing original member Chris Rupp (beatboxer Adam Rupp's brother). And it will always be one of my favorites of theirs. You've described their music as wholesome. Try Everything definitely falls into that category.

One of my favorites and no beatboxing so it’s really a cappella. It’s hauntingly beautiful. Chance (first singer) directed this one and I love the black and white. It emphasizes the loneliness of the song I think. Such exquisite harmonies. Their breath control is incredibly precise, all starting and concluding that they present complete uniformity. Starting out on pitch perfect and doing it in conjunction every line as laid out in this song is very difficult, but very satisfying to us the listeners. Their repertoire of approximately 11 genres of music is also very telling to the giftedness of this group of 5 guys. They virtually all I listen to any more. They are approaching 200 recordings and continue to amaze me over and over with their fresh approach to each new recording with their unique arrangement gifts. No beatboxing in this one. We get to hear Adam's beautiful high tenor voice. You MUST review "How Great Thou Art". It is also strictly 5 part harmony. It was filmed in the Alps in Austria where they had gone to attend a festival. They didn't plan to film a video there, but they were moved by the majestic beauty of the area. They flew in a crew to film the boys singing high atop a mountain. The arrangement is so good! "The Hills Were Alive With The Sound of ..... Home Free."
