Song was written by Mark Kneopfler (sp?) of Dire Straits back in the 80’s during the Falklands War between England and Argentina. It was performed with a 5 minute guitar solo. Club for 5 (sp?) a Finnish group had made and performed an a cappella arrangement. Tim called and asked them about it, and they gave it to him. He made some modifications for Home Free, and they performed and released it for last Veteran’s Day. One of their best, if not the very best, in my opinion.

You got it mostly right, it is Club For Five. Tuukka Haapaniemi is their bass. Tim asked Tuukka if Home Free could use it. Tuukka sent it to them and highly praised it and said that the added "echos" made it Home Free. The added echos were the only difference in the entire arrangement. Tuukka is a friend and mentor to Tim.

"England" is not a sovereign country. The war was between Argentina and Britain/Great Britain/the UK. You would have thought that after the union was formed about 400 years ago, that people would have learned, but clearly not.

I’m a veteran, so this song resonates with me. I put my weapon down, but if WW3 started I’d go right back. I’m older and slower than I used to be, but I can still shoot and jump out of a plane. My brothers are better off with me than without me. But it needs to be a major conflict of necessity, I’ll let the kiddos handle the BS.

This is the joy of Home Free. Cover or original, serious or ridiculous, they never fail to suck you in. Besides the lyrics, what really hooked me on this one was the beautiful harmonies driven by the three tenors. That burst of sound by them after Chance's solo! And then Chance and Tim running on top of them... Wow wow wow.

Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥

Larry this song was released by Dire Straights in 1985. It was written about the Falkland war. It story is about soldier talking to his comrades as he is dying. Even though I like all Home Free songs this one is one of top 2 or 3 songs they have done. If you are not emotionally touched by this song then I do not what will touch you. Glad you are continuing look at Home Free

Even for those of us who served during "peaceful" times, the idea of us being "brothers in arms" was very real, and I'm certain it still is. Just as a soldier's life may well depend on the man or woman in the next foxhole, those of us who served on the sea also depended on our shipmates. There is a camaraderie and closeness. Mark Knopfler's brilliant lyrics capture it so succinctly in the one line, "You did not desert me, my brothers in arms." Excellent reaction, and you've gained a new subscriber.

This is the best version I've ever heard. To me they all look 'ghost' like when standing in front of that window....I still have chills. Such beautiful harmonies and Tim and Adam C. just deliver an awesome performance....as do all the guys. I'm Australian and it resonates with our own lost men & women who died in service of our Country. What a rendition of the Dire Straits Classic. I was and am a huge fan of theirs (DS) and had their album (of the same title) in vinyl, cassette and CD formats. Played it over and over again, as I was growing up to understand what it all meant. Every time I go past a historical resting place of those who answered the call and fought for their convictions, I am always aware that these were somebody's sons, brothers, husbands and fathers,...and I miss a particular one whom I was proud to call my friend. Home Free is not the first to stir these emotions, but, they do bring it to our faces and ask the difficult questions - and quite beautifully so. There are a million and one stories, which played throughout our history. Wouldn't it be great to focus on any one of them, to truly understand and be humbled by their ultimate sacrifice? If even for a moment. No matter their banner, may they all rest peacefully in the sacred silence. Thank you Chris, for sharing your personal insights with us, as I suspect we all need to take pause to honour those who were so valiant. I am also certain your words of appreciation comforted the heartbroken, who lost someone very special to them. We should also be keenly aware that there are many who serve today, who are willing to put their lives on the line for our collectively perceived freedoms. How do we even begin to describe their gift to us? Perhaps, a song or a poem from our hearts...

As has been already said, this was a Dire Straits song and composed originally from a British perspective. The arrangement is not that of Home Free as they clearly note on the original YT page: Arrangement by Susanna Hietala & Jouni Kannisto of Club for Five The group "Club for Five" is not an American group either (they hail from Finland!) but also counts as a member the amazing basso profundo, Tukka Haapaniemi. The bass singer of Home Free is Tim Faust who has been well regarded far and wide for some time now. So, you see, there is quite an international aspect to both the arrangement, composition, and performance of this tune. We all understand some things in common.

This hauntingly beautiful song was written and recorded by DIRE STRAITS in the 1980's. ENGLAND and the small FALKLAND ISLANDS off the coast of Argentina went to war. It is a very deep sad song. In my opinion, HOME FREE did it better than anyone ever has! I totally agree with you, the two men who sang lead were perfect. The harmonies were spectacular. Without music, it is hard to show the grief and sadness that the song called for. This song is an absolute masterpiece, A MASTERPIECE. AND, I BELIEVE IT TO BE THE VERY BEST SONG THAT THEY HAVE EVER DONE!!! THANK YOUR AGAIN FOR YOUR VERY OPEN AND HONEST REACTION.

This is hauntingly beautiful. Tim was the right pick. His range is something else. Loved his low notes, loved the echoes, loved the black and white film. Tim and Chance looked ghost like in the windows. You’re right it is sacred. We owe our soldiers and vets everything. My grandfather, father, brother and nephew all served. Tim’s breathy bass is suggestive of a soldier’s fading strength as he lies mortally wounded, speaking to his comrades. Chance’s lighter tone gets his emotions across to his brethren. The silhouette against the window light is deliberately ghostly, reminiscent of the POW-MIA remembrance flag as pictured on your screen flying beneath the American flag. The subtle touches Home Free has added to this beautiful tribute are so cleverly done.

Everyone gets to shine in HF and it gives them such an incredible diversity. Whoever suits the song the best takes the lead. They told in an interview that with some song it’s clear from the beginning who will be the best to lead, with others they switch the lead, with some they all try out beforehand to see who is the best. Tim said n an interview they planned to do it with one song, Rob being the first to try and as soon as he started they just looked at each other in agreement that this was his song and the rest don’t even have to try.

It's a beautiful harmony and haunting also with the bass-heavy song. I almost feel like I am in an empty room with a pipe organ echoing in it. That's what Chance and Tim's bass together sounds like to me.

So many things hit me in this. The lyrics, the way the background sounds like an organ at a funeral at times. The way the light goes through Tim and Adam when they are at the window, like a ghost. The way Adam looks like the POW flag that flies. Just so much about this hits. Such a beautiful piece. So well done.

Thanks Larry! This one completely gut punched me and brought me to tears. I forgot to breathe the first time I heard it! I'm a very proud daughter of a deceased highly decorated WW2 Veteran. I never got the opportunity to get to know him, but he is my Hero! This is a hauntingly beautiful video of masterful proportions. For a complete change of direction please check out the video release of Tim's Doo-Wop single from his 1st solo album. It is titled- " COME GO WITH ME " TIM FOUST It's a vibe for sure, I think you will enjoy it very much! From your South Georgia Home Free Home Fry Friend!♥️😀🍟

Chris I will always think of you as the King of Chill’s. Tim was amazing as always but when they are all together it goes to a different level. I can’t say enough about these guys except how much I love them. I know you are not a country fan but I hope you will give Ring of Fire a try because their rendition is out of the box for this song it may just surprise you.

It is better with the Sing-Off version. Especially the reactions of the judges.

I'm a bit surprised you did not know the original, but this is a worthy version. I recently saw a documentary on youtube about why the Dutch are so grateful to the Canadians who freed them during WW2. Well that was not just the Canadians, but the British, the Americans and the Polish as well. Their sacrifice has liberated my birth country and yes those that know their history are still very very grateful for the bravery of every soldier that gave us back our freedom. Very touching song and your reaction touches me as well.

This is an amazing interpretation of an incredible song. It's like hearing the Beatles performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. I would love to hear what Marl Knopfler would say about it.

You ate ready to react to their version if Mayday. There are some surprises as the bass sings tenor abd the baritone sings bass. It is very well done.

I very much appreciate your respect of the message of this song while reacting to it. Many reactors seem to ignore the message while blabbing on about Tim's bass or the harmonies of the guys. Thank you!!! This IMO is a masterpiece of perfection. The message, the video and the guys voices... I don't like to call them 'vocals' it seems impersonal to me. Anyway, awesome reaction, as usual, thank you!!

Actually like most reactors he clearly missed the meaning of the lyrics completely.
