LMAO! I have to admit, back in the early 80s (as I was "coming of age"), a LOT of the bands I listened to and watched when MTV became a thing, REALLY made my grandmother and my Boomer aunt/uncle question my sexuality (I'm straight, but not judgmental). But, as an "Early Gen-Xer", my mind and tastes were pretty wide open as far as music went. I love the music that drove the older generation(s) crazy, but not BECAUSE it drove them crazy. That was just a side benefit. =D I loved the soulful voice that Boy George had, and Culture Club, like many other bands of the era, blurred the lines of "traditional gender roles" and even sexual identity. Despite my family's viewpoints (them being very conservative minded) I had no problem with any band/group/singer(s) who could display an emotional message in their songs. I was inundated with opinions about "white music", "black music", "gay music", "straight music", etc.... and yet these SAME people loved watching Liberace's show on television! Now, you explain THAT one to me. I guess that in their minds, it was "okay", because he wasn't "openly gay". Yeah... okay... Liberace wasn't "openly gay"... More likely them being okay with Liberace but not Boy George pointed out the hypocrisy they were trying to get me to accept, and I wasn't having it. Let's just say there was a big disconnect between me and the older generations and leave it at that. Also, it was the early 80s that got me to start "not being afraid of who I was and what I liked". Although, it wasn't until the 90s when that really took hold, and I started dying my hair red and painting my fingernails black. Anyone who didn't like it could go spin.

I remember this song from back in high school. It was a very huge “ disco transition to pop” song of the early 1980’s song. Many groups and songs were immediately “forced” into this style because of the immediate “anti-disco” stigma movement in those early 1980’s years. What a hard time that must have been for those artists. Somehow they did overcome it despite how much the disco influence was such a great movement then!

The long and short of this song is that time doesn't always make a relationship work. Staying together may make you feel like you've got "something real," as the lyrics say, but really all you might be doing is staying together for the sake of staying together and logging in hours as a couple. Time is too valuable to waste on something that isn't working out.

Hi. Love your videos on "First Time Hearing..." I know you love Gladys Knight and the Pips. If you haven't already check out this one: "GLADYS KNIGHT- THE WAY WERE - (LIVE 1974)-REACTION VIDEO." It's a solo performance by Gladys Knight that I think may bring tears to your eyes. Your guys are beautiful and have so much heart.

Boy George had a good voice but he was probably more important as a role model and voice for people who didn't have one. He busted stereotypes.:) Its pop

Boy George has had a massive carreer on his own. One of my fav albums was released in 2013. Must hear and see video #1. King of Everything #2. Feel the Vibrations #3. Death of Samantha (written by Yoko Ono) the entire album is fantastic. You will not be disappointed!

"Time makes lovers feel like they got something real" I interpret it as quantity vs quality. Some people brag about how long they've been together but how meaningful is the relation? If the only thing you can boast about is how long you've been there something may be lacking.

Thank you for doing more Culture Club! They and Duran Duran were my favorites back then. I'd love you to do more songs where you hear the female background singer, Helen Terry. That girl can SING. Black Money would be a great one. Church of the Poison Mind is another. OMG I was so in love with that drummer, John Moss, back then.

Boy George has a great voice! And those 4 boys were soooo cute! 😁 Next up... " Miss Me Blind" (dance banger) or "Mistake Number 3" (lovely ballad). Long live the second British invasion and new wave!

Amber & Jay, Culture Club is an 8️⃣0️⃣’s British 🇬🇧 band that were invading the usa 🇺🇸 music 🎶 market, just like Duran Duran, U2, INXS n many British Bands. Boy George was the lead singer 👩‍🎤 and for Culture Club, Roy Hay was the lead Guitarist 🎸 & Keyboards 🎹 , Mikey Craig is the Bass Player & Jon Moss is the Drummer 🥁 . U guys need to react to Culture Club's Church ⛪️ I Of The Poisoned Mind; Miss Me Blindj; I'll Tumble For You; Miracles music videos. U guys will enjoy.

y'all gotta realize back then when 80s music came out, there was no auto tune. Artists had talent and could actually sing. Nothing fake back then

This is my favorite Culture Club song considering they had quite a few. The group was very popular in the mid 80's. Besides Boy George's vocals the group are pretty good musicians. Another great song of theirs is Miss Me Blind.

It's about a relationship not working. "Time makes lovers feel like they've got something real but you and I know they've got nothing but time", as in they've spent precious "time" and that's all they have to show for it. Another great song - "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me".

It’s always a good time when Culture Club is on screen. This is definitely a slower one but you get a sense of their soul in this song. I love the lyrics to this one, too. For a different sound I’d suggest “It’s a Miracle” or “Miss Me Blind.” And Jay, you made me laugh with that “your Boy…George” in the intro.
