This came out when I was four years old. I would cry and cry when this was played on the radio. Love it. ❤❤❤

This song breaks my heart every time, the begging, please, please, let me just say goodbye to her, I love her enough to let her go, but please, let me say goodbye to

This is an awesome song! I used to sing this to my kids as I hauled them around as toddlers. 😊

Couldn’t agree more. If you love them, you get it. I think too many people overlook how much fun they are. Carry on, Carrie is a favorite of mine. Another serious heart wrenching song.

Oh, I love it when I see a reaction to this! Such an awesome vocal, so emotional! Thanks so much!

I agree with you 100% which is rare. I used to know a fan of Dr. Hook and we'd go on long business trips and we'd listen to their greatest hits tape all the way and only change it infrequently. My friend was quite a character himself a millionaire who was a perfectionist. He also was poet himself.

Actually one of my favorite songs ever and I'm listening to music over 60 yrs. Also I dig their sound, vibe. Why were their sooooo many great singers back in the day? Now only a few🤔

More pure talent required back then. Now not so much. I agree much more good music from back then.

This song, The Cover of the Rolling Stone, and Johnny Cash's song A By Named Sue were all written by Shel Silverstein. Shel wrote many of Dr Hook's songs.

Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk is another one of theirs you ought to listen to.

Oustanding song. "Years from Now" is also superb but "Red Winged Blackbird and "Blue Jeans Talk" would have to be my favourites!

If you like their more sensitive stuff, check out "Sweetist of all" "When she cries" and "Storms never last"

There is no such thing as a bad Dr. Hook song. They could do funny, sexy, sad, even outrageous and do it all perfectly. Dennis Locoriere's is one of my favorite voices in all of recorded music. I HIGHLY recommend their "Storms Never Last", "Sweetest Of All", and "Years From Now". 3 of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard by any artist or group.

It's the final verse that breaks me every time. Mom speaking directly to Sylvia, then that last little deception tells you Sylvia is RIGHT THERE, so close Mom has to pretend she's speaking with someone else. Excruciatin.

Yes, but what did Sylvia’s father say?
@stevenewcomer88375 ай бұрын
He left because the old bat wouldn’t let anyone use the phone. 😉

But did Sylvia’s mother really not want them together? She did tell him what time she was leaving (9:00), and to please call again? I’ve always liked this song and prefer to say they did get back together. Thanks Stan!!

@@traceycater Exactly my take. She's trying to hurry him to the train station, to catch her before the train leaves.
@adamellis67855 ай бұрын
@@traceycater When she said for him to please call again, it was because Sylvia was standing right next to her (as evidenced by her having just reminded Sylvia to take her umbrella because it's starting to rain), and she didn't want Sylvia to know who was on the phone. Mom didn't feel he was right for her, because he always left her crying. If you search for "Sylvia’s Mother the story behind the song" here on KZbin, you can hear it from the lady herself.
