Dusty was deported from South Africa in 1964 along with her group the Echos as she played to an integrated audience. She had it written into her contract that she would NOT play to segregated audiences. A woman who stood by her principles. Well done Dusty for standing up to something that was wrong.

When Dusty was recording this in Memphis she was chatting with the others in the studio. She mentioned to the Producer that, back in London, Jimmy Page and John Paul-Jones were starting their own band. On hearing this, the Producer shouted out “get me Atlantic Records lawyer on the phone now”. Altlantic then set up a contract ready for the new band - Led Zeppelin.

She did alot for Black Artists. Her real name is Mary Catherine Elizabeth O'Brien who is of Irish Background. She was in a Group called The Lana Sisters patterned after the Andrew Sisters then she was in a Folk Group called The Springfields then she changed her name to Dusty Springfield. She refused to play for a Segregated Audience in South Africa and she got called The White Negress. She also went to the BBC (British Broadcasting Company) in 1965 and convinced them to do a Special featuring The Music of Motown. It was called Ready Steady Go The Sounds Of Motown. If you can check it out. Other folks whom she worked with was PP Arnold who was one of The Ikettes in the 1960's, she sang with Tom Jones and she like Dionne Warwick benefitted from The Work of Burt Bacharach/Hal Davis who wrote some of her other songs. In The UK, many feel she kicked the door open for the next generation of Blue Eyed Soul Singers like Amy Winehouse (RIP), Jessi J. and Adele. Also if you can check out Ruthanne, Nadine Coyle (formerly of Girls Aloud) Duffy, and Natasha Bedingfield.

Dusty is a British woman, Born in London I think. She had a ton of soul in her. I remember her and Aretha Franklin doing a Duet of a Motown song on a night time TV show, back in the late 1960s. Two great artists singing together. It was fantastic.

I kind of heard a little bit of Adele in her voice! So I looked it up just to see if she ever covered this song and then to come find out she’s gonna play this lady in a movie! So I guess I’m not the only one that thought the same thing!
@Russ_Keith3 жыл бұрын
Just saw this and now I'm excited. There was supposed to be a bio movie about her a few years ago but it fell through. And played by Adele? The only problem I can see with that is the speaking voice. They couldn't be more different in that respect. If it happens it'll be interesting.
@-C.S.R3 жыл бұрын
@@Russ_Keith That’s probably the reason why it never happened and maybe her acting as well? But when she was a bit heavier the luck would’ve been close and the singing for sure!

@@-C.S.R Actually her look would be better now. Dusty was very petite and slim. Charlize Theron was to play her and I'm sure she could have pulled off the accent. Not so sure about the singing. Alas we'll never know.
