I actually used to think this song was about a man who got into a car crash and wound up in purgatory. "Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light" would be him driving into the headlights of another car, then "My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night" would be him dying. "This could be heaven or this could be hell" is him wondering where he wound up, "we are prisoners here of our own device" and "you can never leave" hinting at the nature of where he is. Even though I've since learned the intention was that the song is based on the celebrity industry, I still love my own interpretation of it lol

Even the last song after 3 hours of playing (mostly on the drums) Don still hit every note of Desperado pitch perfect with power and conviction..... in his 60s..... To think there were some 'critics' saying they sounded 'too' perfect' live....

Don Felder plays the double neck. Joe Walsh plays the 2nd lead. Each of them are masters in their own right, but together they are incomparable. This is truly a masterpiece. Musically, this song has a definite Spanish flavor. Lyrically, I always thought of a lone rider, way out in the SoCal desert at dusk, riding into The Twilight Zone.

The music to this song was written by Don Felder (on that Gibson double neck in the video) on a 12 string guitar. Then he and Joe Walsh (on the tele) put together the duet guitar parts. Don Henley (drummer) wrote most of thevlyrics with colaboration from Glenn Frey (12 string acoustic). The lyrics were written separately while Walsh and Felder hung around shooting pool and chilling out. Felder actually had to re-write/transpose the music in 3 different keys to match up with Henley's vocal range to get it right. The two electric solos aren't really a duel but a call and answer duet that blends so perfectly it is other-worldly. If this version blew you away, check out the acoustic version from the Hell Freezes Over tour opener in New York in 1994. Its on a whole other level where Henley only sings (with some hand held percussion bits) while another drummer handkes the kit. Timothy B Schmidt (who replaced Randy Meisner mid '77 tour) uses an electric bass but all other guitar parts are acoustic (Felder and Walsh on 6 string, Frey on a 12). Some additional percussion lends to the Spanish flavor of the mostly "unplugged" performance and it fits perfectly with the song's story that Henley so magically told. How do I tell you I'm a huge Eagles fan without saying it in so many words? 😁

There are many interpretations of the meaning of the text. Personally, I think these methaphoric lyrics most likely reflect the California-centric American dream that draws fortune-seeking aspirants to Hollywood, from which they (usually) can never escape, even if they check out when things don't work out as desired... Masterpiece! All best from Germany and a happy new year to you!

This song, for anyone wondering, is all about life in the fast lane, as a rock star. Touring, drugs, alcohol, different women every night, throwing themselves at you. The heaven, or hell part is basically explaining how when your trying to make it, the life style looks so inviting, but when you get there, its exhausting burnout, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, STD's, women trying to trap you. The rock and roll lifestyle has been the ruin, and even death of a lot of talented stars over the decades.

You just did a reaction to Jackson Browne. He is closely associated with The Eagles, particularly in the early years of their careers. One of the most significant connections between Jackson Browne and the Eagles is the song "Take It Easy," which became one of the Eagles' signature hits. In the early 1970s, Jackson Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy" with Glenn Frey, a founding member of the Eagles. The story goes that Browne had written a portion of the song but was having difficulty completing it. Frey heard what Browne had and suggested some changes to the lyrics, leading to the completion of the song. "Take It Easy" was released on the Eagles' debut album in 1972, and it became a major hit, reaching the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This success helped launch the Eagles' career, and the song remains one of their most iconic tracks. While this collaboration is one of the most well-known instances of Jackson Browne's interaction with the Eagles, it's worth noting that Browne and members of the Eagles maintained a friendly relationship over the years, with occasional collaborations and performances together. Their connection through "Take It Easy" is a significant part of both artists' musical histories.

Sometimes when we think about heaven and hell, we think literal clouds or fire, but until we feel that dread deep-down, that true regret that haunts us at our very core, we really don't know what it's like to be trapped in hell. I love that Hotel California is about whatever you need it to be about. It can be about addiction or about a brothel or about infidelity and it works, no matter what. The human soul knows how it feels to be bad, and it can feel good, until it comes time for it to be over, then we have to pay the check. That feeling of existential pleasure and dread at knowing that you can never take back what you just did, it's forever haunting and it's the story of all of our lives. I love this song so much.

So the drummer/ singer ( Don Henry )..is in the rock hall both with the eagles and for his solo career as is . the acoustic guitar player ( Glen Fyre ) who was mentored by his good friend from age 16 or 17 by a 20-21 year old Bob Seager and the " other guitar player ) is in the rock hall with this band , another band ( the James Gang ) and for his solo career and one of the best guitar players ever...Joe Walsh...who Stevie Nicks ( F ). Of Fleetwood Mac , Fame called the love of her life even though they had split many years ago but remained friends...the double neck guitar player Dan Felden is/ was vastly underrated , the bassist ( Timothy Schmidt ) also did some lead vocals...incredible talent in one band

Glen Frey (May he rest in peace) is playing an acoustic/electric guitar. There’s a pickup in the body of the guitar that picks up the tone the guitar is resonating at and amplifies it. I’m sure he’s got a sizable amp behind it, because you can hear the rhythm guitar (his) in this recording. Don Felder is on the double neck Gibson and Joe Walsh is on his Fender. Both amazing guitarists and artists in their own right. Fun fact: Joe Walsh is married to Ringo Starrs’ wife’s sister, so they’re brother-in-laws. That’s why you see him show up and participate in Ringo’s All Starr Band occasionally. If you want to see some great finger picking style on electric guitar, check out Dire Straights “Sultans of Swing” live in London. It will ROCK YOUR WORLD!

The Eagles are one of several bands that honor my top play lists. They had more hits than misses and their music is still as popular as back in the day."Take It Easy is one of those other songs on my list that they sing.BTW,almost all of the band are lead singers depending on the song. Also,Levon Helms of The Band is a drummer/lead singer.
