Ironically, Maurice White - who in my opinion had one of the most beautiful voices - never wanted to be the lead singer as he was quite a shy person. All of their music was about love and understanding. My fave band of all time and I still have all of those beautiful albums! It's great to see young folk appreciating and loving these great musicians too!
@oRuTRa452 жыл бұрын
Indeed. And to think, he went from being a shy drummer who sometimes barely spoke above a whisper to the lead vocalist (and drummer/percussionist) and mastermind of the world's greatest band. It surely must've made Ramsey proud to see his former drummer blossom like that. May Ramsey Lewis rest in peace as well.

@just jammim.... also.. Don't forget this.. In reference to what you said about the details in the music... They were like 10 to 12 members. Including the horn section which was three members..... Every instrument you here is someone different playing it... all at the same time... First... You had the rehearsals so many months before you went into the studio because time is money... Once you get into the studio .. And cut the album back then that would take a whole year... Then you got to come up with a show format... rehearse every song for the tour... This could take months back then... And then you finally went on tour... Then you were on tour for 2 and 3 years... That's how great the music was...

Add the most underrated " Emotions" a d you have some of the greatest unscripted FUNK every performed. Additionally, all the performers were having pure blast performing! Great selection again . Maurice " Reece" was the Conductor next to NO ONE. Your understanding of the small details is nice to see out here. Again , thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I first came across EWF in 1972-73. I guess I've taken them for granted since then. Your channel has rekindled my interest. Growing up in the 1960's and '70's I guess a lot of us took very good Pop, Rock and R&B for granted.

As a teen in the 70s, where I lived, EWF wasn't talked about much. I bought their albums because they were black like me. I listen on my headphones, every track a zillion times. I thought my love for them was just personal. Then I went to college in 1978, and met some other brothas, who loved them as much, or more than I did. They'd even gone to their concerts. I'd not been to any concerts in high school. EWF concerts were AMAZING 👏! What a band! Glad I discovered them as a young teen.

I believe Steve Harvey had this song played in Kings of Comedy, shining light on what you said, ‘ They don’t make’ em like this, real music. And THAT was over 12 yrs ago. But on the real side, thas why an artist like Bruno is important. He’s a little guy of mixed heritage, totally dialed into the soul sound & live instruments, but he too is a drummer, like Maurice White, Stevie, Uncle Charlie Wilson of Gap band, Prince, even Justins Bieber & Timberlake. That’s how they get to THAT level of what you call production: Musicianship with deep sound vision. Some of the most successful producers connected to young generations of music over last 30 yrs have that in their favor, like Pharrell, Rodney Jerkins, Teddy Riley, Jermaine Dupree, to name a few. They know their way around that keyboard, melody, harmony, as WELL as the technology.

Ok bruh...you on to some great music...I'm writing a book largely on culture and this is part of it... As we explore music particularly hip hop as part of CULTURE I found this excerpt on point.... please..I kinda skipped featuring a folk artist and although I find Drake very talented I'd still call him a pop artist ...but we can debate that another time...😎 “It’s not about celebrating achievement by terms of popular success” says Murray, finessing the point. ‘’It is defining form as fine art.” Murray then theorizes that there are three legitimate art categories. He uses food as his allegory. Folk Art is a gumbo made with a smidgen of this, a pinch of that. It is difficult in one part of the landscape than another. It’s provincial, largely inexportable, the crudest way of forming an aesthetic statement. It’s peasant art, but not primitive or savage. It is sincere (Hongry? Let us fix you something good to eat). It can move you to goose bumps, but it has the smallest range. Pop Art is a McDonald’s hamburger. It has a broader range, but it is much cheapened, self-indulgent, opportunistic (Hungry? Here’s something to eat. It’s only $1), insincere, unfulfilling. Fine Art is, say, Chateaubriand, or American Thanksgiving roasted turkey dinner with the trimmings. It has the greatest range, the greatest control of the aesthetic statement, and it sharpens the perception of audience, viewer, reader, consumer. “We’re trying to conserve our consciousness,” Murray says. “You can’t embrace chaos, And that’s what out there right now. But the dragon is what evokes heroic action. The greater irony is this: It is the dragon-be it slavery, entropy, white supremacy, whatever -it is the dragon that influences you to heroic action.” Albert Murray As told to Ralph Wiley From his Wiley's book Dark Witness (When Black People should be sacrificed again)

Released in 1978. The height of their WORLDWIDE populaity. Maurice said he thought this was thier best album. Their populartrity took a steep nosedown beginning in the mid 1980's due to the rapid ascendancy of Rap and Hip Hop. Which they had little to no interest in. Then and now.
