This Eivør reaction is genuinely my first time hearing this artist or this live performance of their song Falling Free.
0:00 Intro
0:33 Start of song
7:10 Summary
You can checkout the artist's original video without my commentary here: • Eivør - Falling Free ...
If you'd like to help support me in my future endeavours or guarantee that I definitely make a reaction video to your request I have a Patreon page here: / steveogreacts
When I do my reaction videos I don't press pause because I don't want to interrupt the natural flow of the music as it was originally intended by the artist. I try to vocalise my thoughts in real time as I listen to the song, and then summarise my reaction afterwards.
Please do recommend songs or other artists for me to checkout in future by commenting on this video! I'm constantly on the lookout for great new music and things I've never heard before.
A Spotify playlist of songs I've reacted to and consider to be absolute bangers can be found here: open.spotify.com/playlist/26j...

Nice reaction. Eivør is her name not the band’s (Eivør Pálsdóttir). She is a classically trained singer so no surprise at the clarity and control. She can do it all - folk, electronic, art pop, opera, tribal chanting, throat singing, inhale vocalisations. From the Faroe Islands, she sings many of her songs in her native Faroese, and sometimes releases both a Faroese and an English language version of the same song with the same music video and music track.

Haha, I knew you'd enjoy this one, so of course I had to insist on it. 😁 I have goosebumps from beginning to end when listening to this, every single time. It's just unreal how gorgeous it is. The joik-like bit in the middle even has me in tears some times. Thanks a heap for having a look at this. 💚

Jeez...awesome. A small confession, Steve - I come from a classical background and have a love of opera. To me, the voice is the greatest instrument there is, and that was a masterclass in how to use it. Thanks for the analysis, but a special thank you (along with all the others) to Lotta for her persistence in bringing this to your channel!

I think if you take a little time and listen to the songs from the Eivör Live album, you will be even more impressed. There are lullabies, classical vocals, jazz, tribal singing and even country music, all of which allow her voice to show its uniqueness.

No words can truly describe the experience seeing her live performance. Its just something completely otherwordly, like seeing an actual pagan goddes descended from some higher level of existance to lure us earthly mortals in her enchantment with her spellbinding voice.

Such a great reaction. Thank you! And thank you, Lotta W (my fellow Dirty Loops superfan 😉) for your persistence. This one by Eivør is gorgeous. It's a journey, from that soft mellow beginning to that majestic crescendo with her hauntingly beautiful chanting, and back to the delicacy right at the end. I "enjoyed the heck out of this" reaction. Have a nice weekend!

You must react to Eivør's post-modern folk-song "Trøllabundin" where she combines pretty much every single traditional vocal technique from the eastern North Atlantic. It is absolutely unique as she combines throat singing, Sami Joik, South Scandinavian "kulning" and British (old Gaelic Celtic) "keening" traditions lifted up to a post-modernistic unity "kzbin.info/www/bejne/raTPXn5-fMpngc0&ab_channel=1210beth

Ha, another one who got Eivored. 😆 She is just something else. I used to say Skin from Skunk Anansie was my favourite vocalist but Eivor has kicked her off that throne. My other favourite songs of her are True Love and Salt - the latter one is in Faroese and shows off her trad roots mixed with more modern sounds.

Such a great performance of an incredible song. What strikes me every time i watch this video is the sheer volume of that whistle note she sings at the end. She backs off at least 3 feet from the mic before hitting that note and holds it for so long! I know she has classical vocal training and the incredible power of a trained soprano is always awe-inspiring, (I once stood next to one as she belted a high note and it physically hurt my ears!) but it shocks me every time anyhow.

That was my intro to her. And then "May It Be" about 8 years ago. Many others since then. She's so evocative, getting you into a time and place that you didn't know existed and then telling the story. One in 50,000 (the approx population of the Faroe Islands).

yeah totally crazy.. Not even among her best songs.. Good, and the sort of a build-up song to close a Concert, but both melodically and regarding the true range of her voice this song doesn’t do her justice as an artist.. But there are 2-3 persons that have pledged their lives to be first to recommend this song and then Trøllabundin live in a Norwegian fjord anywhere they possible can, wherever there is a KZbin channel reacting to music they will have beaten you to it..😂 both performances certainly have their merits, but even if you check-out views neither are among the most viewed. There are 3 versions of Trøllabundin and the one always recommended is the third most viewed which also is the least most viewed.. Annoying really that not even a handfull of people see it as some sort of a life-calling to put an extremely gifted artist in a very narrow box.. How many reactions do they need on the same song??? Jeeeezzz…
