Except when it came to the colonel. He controlled Elvis' career with an iron fist. He chose the movies, which many, Elvis didn't want to do. He was tired of all the girls, music, & fluff. He wanted to be a serious actor. All the colonel wanted was the guaranteed cash cow. Don't get me wrong, I loved all his movies, but my heart hurts for him. Most people don't know, that Barbra Streisand bought the rights to the movie, "A Star is Born", with Elvis in mind. The colonel told her it wasn't an "Elvis" movie. It could have changed his whole career/life. I'm not sure if Elvis ever knew, but he would've done what he was told. The part went to Kris Kristofferson, & was a huge hit. Elvis' life could have gone in a whole new direction.

Elvis grew up in the pentacostal church but as a child he was also welcomed into the black christian churches near his home.. His mother was a woman of deep faith & Elvis carried his love of god & gospel music his whole life.. That perfomance Elvis had The Imperials as his backing singers one of his favorite gospel quartets as a child.. The only grammy awards Elvis ever won were for his Gospel Albums. It was well known that no matter what hour day or night he could be found at the piano with some of his singers & friends just singing Gospel songs nonstop. He even went so far as to have the nephew of JD Somners ( his bass singer ) create & then employ a group of 4 singers Called Voice Incorporated whose job when called was to fly to & check into whatever hotel Elvis was at & then when called .. come to him so Elvis could sing gospel songs & his band & stage singers could get sleep. Elvis had a Gospel record collection like none other made up of every album produced from every solo singer duet quartet & group that he had heard of & had listened to every one of them at least once. Elvis found peace joy & happiness in singing Gospel & he never was afraid to let others shine in the spotlight.. One tour Elvis went to The Imperials & asked If they would do him the favour of being his opening act.. They said yes of course. Glad you got to see and experience him singing this

Great humbleness is to always give thanks and glory to God, very well said sir. And as for Elvis to really dedicate a music space to sing to the Lord and at the same time give him praise it is a wonderful thing to hear and see. Hopefully he may have helped some people get in touch or even come back to God, even in the middle of an Elvis performacnce and show. He has many great gospel songs of which he won Grammy recognition. Not every have that in their career, goes to show that he did it well and the fans and industry responded well. I think most importantly because of his search and love of God. Not many after a concert etc would invite his band and a choir (boys and girls) to sit around in his great hotel room to sing gospel songs all through until day break. His heart was searching and at the same time he wanted to share his love for the Lord, even If it was his way.
