The performance you MUST see is “Trying to Get to You” from his ‘68 comeback special where he’s playing the guitar and wearing black leather. That’s the most real and raw you will ever see Elvis. That song, and the one you just reacted to, changed my opinion of Elvis completely. I soon came to realize he was a musical prodigy. Great reaction!

Dedicated by Elvis to the memories of Martin Luther King, Jr. & Robert F Kennedy, both of whom were killed in 1968. He sang this song as the finale to a nationwide Christmas Special on NBC aired in December 1968. To learn more of his background, check out “Elvis Presley and the Black Community - that echo will never die”.

Great to see a young person enjoying Elvis. His musical versatility is unmatched; he is in 5 major Halls of Fame & still loved throughout the world. Elvis fused gospel, country & R&B to become the biggest Rock & Roll singer of all times. His style, dance moves & voice made him the musical cultural icon of the 20th Century. You really can't go wrong with his music. Anything from the 1968 Comeback Special, the That's The Way It Is movie (1970) and Elvis On Tour musical documentary (1972) and the 1st Satellite Broadcast - Aloha From Hawaii (1973) would be great. A few favorites - Stand Up or Sit Down Medley (1968) "Patch It up;" "Suspicious Minds" & "Polk Salad Annie" from That's The Way It Is, "How Great Thou Art" (1972) from "Elvis On Tour" and "The American Trilogy;" "My Way;" and "You Gave Me A Mountain" (1973) Aloha From Hawaii. Elvis recorded more than 780 songs so there's lots to choose from.

This song he was told not to sing to me it's his best song this was after Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy was assassinated. Elvis did this song back in 1968 and it still has meaning today. It also brings me chills every time I hear it. Elvis could sing and back then there was auto tune. GOD BLESS EVERYONE 🙏🙏🙏😇😇😇❤️❤️❤️🎤🎤🎤🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵💙💙💙🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

My Elvis journey was like ... great song, love it, great, ... i couldn't believe how many songs I love and still discover after so many years. No auto tune, no pitch correction. Another reason i love him is his maby unmatched generosity. (2 documentaries : King of kindness/ A generous heart) Amazing reaction! Thank you!☀️💚

Thanks for this reaction. I was speechless, too, the first time I saw and heard this performance. Some recommendations, all with different vibes: his '68 Comeback version of "Trying to Get to You"; his 1970 live Las Vegas performance of "Suspicious Minds"; his early 1957 live TV performance of "Heartbreak Hotel" (classic young Elvis!); and the opening song "Crawfish" from the film "King Creole." Beyond these, though, there are so many other great performances, including some of his award winning Gospel music recordings.

(new sub) BACKGROUND INFO for the SONG: As per Steve Binder, the producer-director of the '68 special, Elvis, Binder & others were together in the studio when they heard noise coming from the TV in the next room; it was the TV news broadcast that Robert Kennedy had just been assassinated. Binder, Elvis, et al sat up until about 4 a.m. talking about the turmoil in the world at that time w-Elvis expressing his thoughts & feelings. Binder asked songwriter Walter Earl Brown to compose a song based on those discussions. The song is not a dedication to any on person or persons but is notable for its similarities to Martin Luther King’s wish for a world of peace and harmony. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam. See the video "Gates of Graceland: Secrets of the '68 Special" for the entire story of the '68 special, + all the other Steve Binder video interviews regarding the culmination of the song & the making of the special. This was the closing song from his " '68 Comeback Special" that aired on TV. ELVIS & HIS NERVES: Steve Binder related this story regarding the '68 special which took place in the dressing room right before Elvis was due to go on: Elvis was extremely nervous and he told Binder that he didn't know any of the songs, he forgot all the words, & wasn't going out there, & Binder said “I don't care if you walk out, just say hello & then walk off, but you ARE going out.” And out he came.

Seriously, his finest hour. Just watch and appreciate the whole show. It is comedy gold and features Elvis in his prime. You get chills everytime he sings a note. This is a very culturally important moment in US history and you should be aware of it and of where Elvis stood and why he controversially stuck to his guns and sang this for broadcast. He was utter perfection ❤
