Ironically he won a Grammy for this album yet he says he cringes when he listens to it lol also he had a Number 1 hit w/ “Crack A Bottle” which is so odd this album to me even tho it got shitted on when it was released, it still was something ominous about it and simply focused and a great concept it’s surely a cult classic and to me this album saw the last of Dr. Dre having a huge hand in the production but tbh this album was the first and last time Dr. Dre had the first and last say on the beats and yet it was the best decision Em ever made cause coming back after his hiatus from 2007-2009 he could just lock in on the rhymes while Dre works on the beats/production. I’ll reckon this album has some of Dr. Dre’s most versatile beats he’s ever done! This album released when I was 9 years old so it definitely holds a special place in my heart and I always found myself when listening to “Same Song & Dance” and “Beautiful” it time travels me back to the time when I first was immersing myself into this album.🐐🎯💯

Okay, I always thought about doing this type of comment for these album reaction, giving tidbits of information overall and each song. So, after Encore in 2004, and Curtain Call as a nearly farewell compilation in 2006. Eminem effectively disappeared from the spotlight. Many thought he would make and release his last album and retire. Then his overdose happened and he had to go through a lot, having to relearn how to speak, and rap, as you said. Honestly, those tracks up until the Mr. Mathers skit seem to be his nightmares influenced by the drugs he was on, with the experiences seemingly amplified by insecurities and traumas that he dealt with as a child, but also showcase some aspects of recovery, considering the accents. The Dr. West skit is reminiscent of the Slim Shady EP. Ahmad, you should honestly check it out. Dr. West does appear at the end of the album of the outro in Underground. 3 A.M. in all honesty, is a personal favorite, considering how he does show near masterful lyrical complexity, even when many, himself included, didn’t consider this song as being made while at the top of his game. Well, Eminem did make the claim on “My Name Is…”true. My Mom, to be honest, with respect to Debbie Nelson (RIP), probably a change in tone considering Em’s personal disses toward her, most notably on Cleanin Out My Closet. Another thing was the Heath Ledger bar, because Eminem had his overdose in December 2007. A month later, Ledger took an overdose that took his life. Finally, that white crayon coloring a fucking zebra line is probably my second favorite punchline that didn’t come from Big L. Insane. Honestly, nothing I could add. Just that Eminem wanted to make a song that would make people puke. He succeeded. Now you know what felching is. Bagpipes from Baghdad is ridiculously equal parts funny and disturbing. The whole Mariah Carey thing really ends with “The Warning”, which you might’ve heard. Hello definitely felt like Eminem reintroducing himself or more likely, Slim Shady, after his hiatus. Going back to his disturbing antics, with the Tonya skit following afterwards, & Same Song And Dance. We Made You takes that a step further with the fantasies, while also debasing it, noting how celebrities are idolized like gods, which seems even more true these days than from back then, though it takes on the style of “The Real Slim Shady”, especially considering how both are lead singles from two different albums that make you go “WTF?”, with far different emotions. Well, the Best Feature had to go to Christopher Reeve. Okay, okay, I kid. What’s f’ed up is that he died in October 2004, a month before Encore, the album BEFORE Relapse, was released. A song was titled “Christopher Reeves”, but was shelved until it was reincorporated as “Brand New Dance”. From what I can gather, Eminem always admired Christopher Reeve as Superman, and some thought that these lyrics were Eminem showing his twisted appreciation, though these is also a claim (to clarify, someone in a KZbin video reacting to that song said this, but no one else had also said this), that upon hearing Eminem, Reeve said that he was disappointed that Eminem was inspired by him. (Don’t quote) Funny thing is that Eminem always said his name with an extra ‘S’, as in Reeves, not Reeve, as I said earlier. Your reaction is honestly how everyone feels about this song. The Paul skit. Nothing else needed to be said. Stay Wide Awake is Shady at his worst, noting about raping women like a part of a casual conversation at work on Tuesday. However, react to that channel that breaks down lyrics by color coding the rhymes and react to this song. Old Time’s Sake just shows Em and Dr. Dre as they were when SSLP & MMLP came out, the greatest partners-in-crime to grace a rap record. Finally, Must be the Ganja seems to channel how his mindset within a studio tends to be more of an addiction than actual addictive substances, like drugs and alcohol. With the Mr. Mathers skit leading into Deja Vu, it all comes to a head, with the song serving as a check of his mindstate leading up to the overdose to immediately afterward. Then, Beautiful. Man, I could say a lot about this song. The most interesting fact about this song is that even though this is the serious song, on an album that gives off the vibe of someone’s mindstate being wrapped by drugs and all, this is the only song that had ANY part of it being written while not sober. The first two verses were written in 2005, then after he overdosed, he wrote the third verse. Then, Crack a Bottle, the song that finally gave 50 Cent his first Grammy Award. Few things to note, Dre’s was written by Em, as you said, to the point that there is a version with Eminem rapping both verses. Also, Em’s introduction is actually a reference to his career up to this point. The 17 rapes part was a reference to the number of rap beefs he was involved in (though I first thought of the fact that this was also track 18 on this album, so he’s looking to add another one to his mark.), the 400 assaults serve as a rough approximation of songs including Eminem, and the 4 murders references how many platinum albums he had. That record would be high now. The Steve Berman leads into the last track. But a lot of notes to go through. First, Steve does lose his arm, but please react to both D12’ Devils Night and The Eminem Show, because it will lead to this skit as is. Another thing was a bottle being thrown and it crackin’. Finally, the last thing was the fact that Steve noted that there was 2 CD’s. During that five year stretch between Encore and Relapse, he recorded a lot of material, though especially during the production of Relapse, which started after his rehab. So, he had planned to release Relapse 2. However, Eminem was not convinced that he would release Relapse 2, considering the reception around Relapse being ridiculously divisive, at this time. Eventually, he decided to rerelease Relapse as Relapse:Refill, with extra songs, such as Forever, which was originally released on the More Than A Game soundtrack, Buffalo Bill, and Elevator (My personal favorite song from those bonus tracks), and finally starting from scratch to make Recovery, hope you react to Refill and then Recovery. Also, there are tow Deluxe Edition track, one of which, My Darling, which seems to be Em vs Shady, going back to my point of the Slim Shady EP. The other was Careful What You Wish For, which I think he made in ‘07. Then, Underground, honestly within my top 5 personal Eminem tracks, up there with Lose Yourself and As The World Turns. This track has a lot of things to note, the first was that this song was written in a 5/4 time signature in music. Plus, this brings Eminem back to his roots from his days as a battle rapper from the HipHop Shop, which was a clothing store where freestyle battles were performed. That “cut your fuckin’ head off and ask where you headed off to, ‘Get it?’ ‘Headed off to?’, has to be one of the best punchlines ever, including ALL Big L punchlines. Finally, Eminem continues the tradition of Ken Kaniff appearing and creeping out everybody else easily. The Eminem Show also had a similar ending with Ken. Hope you react to it, man. Thanks for your content. Two final thoughts, one was that many pondered about a Slim Shady LP 2 for years. Maybe there could be, but also in all honesty, this album is by far and away the closest to filling that void, considering how you reacted to this album and claimed that SSLP and MMLP were like Kidz Bop albums compared to this. This album seems to have surpassed the Slim Shady LP, in truth. The last thing, Ahmad, was that there is a sort of fan project called “King Mathers”. What you may not know though, is that Eminem had planned on one final retirement album with that name, after Encore and all. The fan project tries the best to recreating the album from what might’ve been included and how it might’ve been ordered. I don’t want to say much, but you can definitely hear his tone throughout the album and it’s really depressing. I hope you do a livestream of that project, and everyone does help you with how it is supposed to be heard, because it is a lot of curiosity regarding this project. The skits, I believe, are made with AI, admittedly. Still a lot we don’t know about this project. Does it technically count as a Em reaction. Maybe, depends on what you think. From what I heard, this was almost done by September of that year and might have released later, maybe ‘08. Then his overdose happened and by summer of ’08. I just can’t imagine him passing away from his overdose and this album being released, what the reaction overall would have been. Haunting to imagine how much different life could be because of this one person. Shows how much influence Eminem had in the culture, akin to a deathgrip. He would definitely made his case as a G.O.A.T., for sure. One final thank to Ahmad for your reactions, it’s such a joy to watch someone’s reactions/thoughts/perspectives. It’s just nice. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

hes not really rapping like that on this album because of the overdose, but Eminem just happened to get into this accent type of rap in 2009. he went through this phase where he used accents in his raps, which is the entirety of relapse, and a little bit of it is also in Recovery, a year after Relapse, just using accents to rap and rhyme words that wouldn't normally rhyme.
