Now imagine this: I was in the 4th grade listening to this album on a portable CD player every morning on my way to school. Having immigrant parents , they had no idea what I was listening to at 9 years old 😂 At that time, I remember writing the lyrics to every song down on paper so I could memorize it. Yes at 9 years old 😂 As I grew older, my perspective of things have changed but it fascinates me that this album in particular continues to give me the same exact feelings it did back then. Excitement. Anxiety. Anger. It’s a thrill ride lol

When I hear MMLP, I feel like "yeah, this is obviously his best album, a true master piece". But when I hear the Eminem show, which is a very different album, I feel exactly the same. I just can't choose, never could and probably never will. And that's the best part of this. My two favorites albums in rap music are from the same artist but don't look the same at all. I first heard the first bars of "May I Have Your Attention Please -" at a club when the LP first came out. Everyone *flooded* the dance floor. You couldn't even get the LP that week in the record store, it was sold out. I got it two weeks later. If you emailed someone with the lyrics of "Stan", everyone knew the reference ... within a month. Someone played Dido's "thank you" in a bar; the girls in the table next to you would loudly express DISAPPOINTMENT that it was not "Stan". Everyone remembers when this album came out.

@merciless41582 Жыл бұрын
The main thing separating "hip hop" today to hip hop in the golden era is THE STORYTELLING. Eminem is telling you a story on this classic album. There is a reason why this album is considered his best album ever, why it is Diamond album, why it has sold 25 million in the US alone, and why he won 2 Grammys for this album. It was also controversial upon its release. I remember a couple of my friends said they had to sneak the album into their parents house with fear of being out of pocket $22 dollars. $22 was a lot for a CD back then. If their parents found it, they would throw the album away. Bro, you should review Redman's "Muddy Waters" album. If you didn't appreciate Redman before, you will after hearing that album.
@jamesthegr8732 Жыл бұрын
The first 3 Redman albums and the 1at red and meth collab album are all great albums, Eminem says Redman is his favorite rapper. If it wasnt for Redman first two albums doing good, and Warren G smashing the charts with Regykate, there was talk of Def Jam closing back in the day.

You took me back with this one lol. Good reaction bruh. I still have this cd, but honestly, I don't return to this album, because I'm a man of a certain age now, and some of the subject matter and pop culture references just don't hit like they did initially. Glad you enjoyed it, however. From a production standpoint, cringe and shock value content aside, the sonics provided by Dr. Dre and Eminem & the Bass Brothers, along with Mark The 45 King for "Stan," are excellent. "Kim" is the only song on here that has iffy production. The Real Slim Shady is goofy sounding in hindsight, but at the time this album came out, that production by Dre fit Em's subject matter perfectly. Back then, you still needed radio singles to set up your album, so that song worked. Loved your reaction to "Who Knew" and "I'm Back" rhyme schemes and the wordplay on "Remember Me?" (Sidenote: according to Sticky Fingaz, that song was meant to be on The Chronic 2001, which sonically, makes perfect sense). Even if I can't get down with the subject matter, I'll always appreciate how dope Em was with his pen and new rhyme schemes. "The Way I Am" rhyme patterns, which Nas just borrowed for a song on his last album, and Lil' Kim used on one of her albums years ago, is just elite. Em was bonkers in that era as an emcee. Dre guided and crafted him into an actual artist by '99, but you could still hear remnants of his earlier underground battle rapper phase on songs like "Amityville." Anyhow, good reaction bruh. Looking forward to the upcoming MF Doom, Ghostface Killah and The Fugees reactions you've got lined up.

A lot of the guitar riffs were by the bass brothers here.... This album was also heavily recorded in Amsterdam.

This is definitely going down as one of the best albums ever. Christopher Reeves was an actor who played superman in the 1979 movie. He had an accident that left him full body paralyzed. Em is a big comic book fan so when he jokes about CR, that's his own messed up way of showing love 😆

Man, its interesting how we work.. my first time seeing your channel pop up and i actually committed through the entire album with you bro ;) After seeing your reaction i could appreciate how you saw songs for what they were, respectin the message etc. I grew up on Em, so it's always fun to watch people react to new tracks like these. I just wanted to mention around 1:02:30 on Kim, despite having heard that song many times, that last time yelling bleeed made me get emotional.. can be hard to pinpoint what draws those emotions but it was kind of a powerful moment watching your reaction. Because i feel like i can tell you laugh to express many things, nervousness, displeasure? so even though you were laughing you were also shocked i think.. maybe thats what brought me over the edge a bit like damn... this shit... is fucking.. heavy... as a guy who feels a lot, and appreciates it.. it was dope to see your authentic reaction too. There's something bigger at play w reaction channels ya know? lol being able to share the feeling that those songs bring us. they are a part of our history and identity. I'ts validating i guess too, like waiting for that rhyme scheme or part you know is DOPE haha but i should stop there lmao ill peep more of the channel have a good one

Just a little information about Stan that makes it so much better. Cannabis wrote Em letters after an awkward moment where Bis insinuated Em wrote LL’s response during their rap beef. He wrote Em 3 crazy letters that were similar to the Stan letters. Cannabis recently admitted he created a monster by going against Em. Eminem turned those letters into a legendary song. Even Cannabis said he can’t deny how great the song was

29:30 From here on out he doesn't say "fucking" for just over 6 minutes on that album, up to Marshall Mathers first verse two songs later. He still says some crazy shit and curse a whole lot, but at least critics should be happy right? That's an insanely genius overarching scheme...

While we're all used to Eminem using different voices, and rapping about everything on the planet, this album hit you like a mack truck when it came out. At this point, Em was just starting to become well known, and he was getting compared to Vanilla Ice, and pop stars. You have no idea what it was like to hear these songs for the first time, he had really only used his high pitched nasally voice, and on comes Stan, in which he's rapping in a totally different voice, measured and calm, very serious. That song was like a slap in the face by the time you got to the end, it was amazing. And even The Way I Am, he had never rapped so angrily before, it was startling. He was coming at you with all these different voices and cadences, it was hard to believe he had just made an album even better than the first one. Imagine trying to live up to that hype, and not only delivering, but completely blowing away The Slim Shady LP. That's when I knew this guy had the potential to be one of the all time greats. And he is.

29:29 "I'm tryna clean up my fuckin' image, So I promised the fuckin' critics I wouldn't say fuckin for six minutes. Six minutes, Slim Shady, you're on" Eminem keeps his promise and actually doesn't say "fuckin'" for 6 minutes, he says the word "fuck" but not fuckin', as on the next track which is I'm Back, he doesn't say it but he does in the track Marshall Mathers that follows after that as the 6 minutes are over. If you time him from when he said he wouldn't say it, to when he does say it again, you can hear that he kept his promise

I remember when it came out back in like 8th grade i bought the cd that day and listened to it over and over till i knew all the songs lol you're clearly studying hip hop and that's what's up...oh yeah i just now noticed j. Cole in the background. Hopefully you've heard coast contra. That's what you should review if you haven't yet. Their lyrics are really fkn dense tho lol it's not for the weak lol

Hahaha right? I remember being like 14 and getting this album the moment it came out and hiding in my room listening to it in my boombox on a low volume literally with my ear pressed against the speaker the first couple times to give how it would be received by my family before I listened to it with them. Bless their hearts they spent a lot of my formative years listening to and enjoying Eminem and other artists along with me (some more than others) but despite their openness I still knew there was gonna be stuff to skip for awhile 😂😂😂
