When Ms Etta recorded this she couldn't imagine that 2 brothers would be loving her music so much over 50 years in the future...with thousands of people all over the world watching them...watching her for the first time on something called youtube...on something called the internet...on something called a laptop. A true legend literally transcending space, time and technology. Thank you Queen Etta

Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel you're welcome.
@dxwallace554 жыл бұрын
He was a talented cat who doesn't get as much credit to what he brought to the 80 as does Phil Collins. but when you look into that classic 80's drum sound as an example, that you hear on Phil's "In the air Tonight", it was Peter that invented that classic drum sound. And he spent millions on his Sledgehammer video when everybody else was spending peanuts making cheesy videos. Sledgehammer was the most expensive music video in history, at the time it came out. Peter Gabriel was a true innovator that wasn't afraid to break away from Genesis and do his own expression. And when you look back at the numbers, he sold a hell of a lot of records, just like Phil Collins
@patriciamorgan65454 жыл бұрын
Of course Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins were in Genesis together at times during the band's history. They overlapped 1970-75 until Peter left the band. A reunion tour was (is still?) being planned (announced spring 2020).

@@patriciamorgan6545 There's a good video out there on how that iconic drum sound of the 80's most know in "In the Air Tonight" came about, it started as an accident in the studio when Genesis was recording, bye eventually shaped the entire 80's music sound . Peter was just as much involved in inventing that sound as Phil if not more. the link is here, cool little piece of throwback music history about Genesis. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKndZ52Jnbxgaac

MAY I SUGGEST THAT YOU WATCH THE MOVIE CALLED.... "CADILLAC RECORDS" THE MOVIE IS DEEP & COVERS THE STORY OF BLACK AMERICAN MUSIC THROUGH THE JOURNEY WITH CHESS RECORDS THAT WAS BASED IN DETROIT , & STARTING WITH BLUES MUSIC THROUGH TO ROCK N ROLL & MOTOWN THEN LATER... CHESS RECORDS WENT ON TO WORK WITH HIP HOP. THE CAST IN THIS MOVIE WERE THE PERFECT CHOICE... "IN MY OPINION" BEYONCE PLAYS... ETA JAMES & GIVES A VERY GOOD SOLID PERFORMANCE IN HER PORTRAYAL OF ETA. MOS DEF PLAYS... CHUCK BERRY THE CREATOR & "THE REAL KING OF ROCK N ROLL".. FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW. COLUMBUS SHORT... PLAYS LITTLE WALTER LITTLE WALTER PLAYED THE HARMONIC AND NOBODY COULD TEST HIM AT THE TIME. IN FACT... THIS MOVIE SHOULD BE PLAYED IN BLACK HISTORY CLASS BECAUSE MUSIC HAS PLAYED A VERY BIG PART IN THE BLACK MAN'S STRUGGLE TO SURVIVE THROUGH THOSE SLAVERY DAYS WHEN THE WHIP STRUCK THEIR BACKS , IT WAS THEIR SINGING THAT GAVE THE BLACK MAN HOPE... & STRENGTH TO CARRY ON RIGHT UP UNTIL NOW IN THESE TIMES. THOSE SONGS WERE SONGS OF PAIN & SUFFERING BUT ALSO MOST IMPORTANTLY THOSE SONGS WERE SONGS OF FREEDOM , THEY WERE FREEDOM CRIES LONG BEFORE MODERN BLACK MUSIC BECAME MAINSTREAM. THANK YOU FOR READING & MANY BLESSINGS ONE & ALL... & BIG RESPECT TO TwinsthenewTrend.. COMING FROM THE UK , BLESS UP

Nobody in the comments realized Tennessee Whiskey is a reincarnate of this track???

Yep sure did. First time I heard it. Chris Stapleton is great, but not a patch on Etta.

Yep! I’ve been thinking of making a mashup cover for a couple years but the lyrics have nothing to do with each other 😂

I'm fairly new to your channel and this is a song I was thinking of recommending to you. I saw her in perform in 2004. She was getting on in years and wasn't able to move around stage much so she performed while sitting in a chair but her voice was still amazing. I am still stunned at how she could belt out a song with seemingly no effort whatsoever. I'm so glad to know her recordings are being appreciated by your generation.
