Nobody sang like Etta James, though many have tried. I have the utmost admiration for this lady. I can't believe she sang about half the song without using the mic.

@Barbara Lockway Janis Joplin was awesome. But, I think she was inspired by Bessie Smith and MA Rainy. She purchased a headstone when she found out that Bessie Smith grave did not have a one.

And just think when she did sugar on the floor I think she was in her late 70s early 80s and that voice just was unreal I hope you do a lot more Etta James one in this song that you’re playing now you know how much I love Etta James I know there’s a song in there drowning in my own tears that she saying just before she saying I’d rather go blind and I think that you’d really like it it’s an old gospel song to my beautiful babies all my love and most of all to mama I love her very much she’s a true person and believe me I’m a Gemini I know I feel it in my heart Liz the queen thank you for making me happy

Thanks for showing this video I am 67 years old and this is my first time seeing it. I loved the music I gew up on many songs about love. Artist like Chubby Checkers I think he invited the dance called The Swist. There were many American Americans that came out with new dances and song about the dance.

I was reading something about her and saw that her choir director would punch her in the chest and stomach when she didn’t sing loud enough. It’s messed up but whew..That’s why she don’t need no mic, that lady could blow.

I’ve got the whole concert of this up in Montrose you wouldn’t believe how she say no I grant you remember she had a problem with drugs so but it never took your voice away and I’m not down I wouldn’t doubt anybody I nobody could talk bad about her to me or it be over that’s my girl I love you til the day she died and I still love her
