I had no idea who they were in 1990. Raising my kids in the 80's and 90's music and MTV kept me sane. All I know is I was blown away by this beautiful song and was in total awe of their looks and hair whenever they came up on MTV Thanks for reacting.

This song was so popular and came on the radio so much that people got tickets for their concert. A lot of people who had no idea of any of their other songs ended up being so surprised by the metal band that came on before them and ended up walking out. Don't buy tickets for a band You only know 1 song and then get upset because the band is totally different than that 1 song.

At the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992, this band Extreme performed the most AMAZING Queen medley!! When Brian May introduced the band, he paid them the highest compliment by calling them “REAL friends”, and then Brian stated that “these guys, more than anyone else on the planet, really get what Queen has been about and what Freddie has been about all these years”. Extreme’s FULL Queen medley from that day is a whole 20 minutes long!! (It’s really hard to find in its entirety though, most videos on KZbin of this medley are of an edited-down 12-minute version … There ARE a couple copies of the full 20-minute thing, tho!)

Great reaction to this amazing song!! Guitarist, Nuno Bettencourt, is one of the best guitarists on the planet!! And Gary Cherone is a great singer/songwriter and frontman. This song is one of their biggest hits, even tho it’s in such contrast to their what you might expect from a ‘metal’ band! Their harmonies, and this song’s lyrics, made it a huge hit worldwide when it was released in 1990. As a die-hard Queen fan, I found Extreme from their involvement in Freddie Mercury’s tribute concert (1992), when they did a 20 minute mash-up of many of Queen’s biggest hits - somewhat against the wishes of Brian May. They were amazing, and I’ve followed their music since!! Thank-you for sharing…

This song is unlike their other work. They went after a mass audience hit and got one. I was shocked when I discovered this song was by them. Sorta like Metallica’ s ballad. Not representative. Bettancourt is in the top five guitarists playing today, imo. And this certainly does not show off his immense skills. But it is a sweet song.

This and Hole Hearted were their slower songs. Check out their more rock based songs you would be surprised. Another band that's similar is Mr Big, they had the song To be With You. I always associate both bands in a similar style. It was pretty common for 80s and 90s bands to release at least one ballad on their albums.

One of my top three favorite bands, along with Rush and the Beatles. Chicago is up there also. I’m from the area though and my grandparents were from the same area as Nuno so I guess we had a little more exposure. No insult to the band or the many accomplishments you read to us, but this was their first and only song I’ve heard from them which I heard and loved when it came out. I was born in 1956 and lived through all of the eras and generations of music since a teen lying in the sun in my back yard with ear plugs in the mid 60’s but not liking that era of music so listening to the golden oldies am channel from the 50’s on my transistor radio. It’s sad with all the six albums you said they made of their music I caught only one song. If you react to more of their music maybe we’ll both be enlighten to their culture of rock in their era. Thanx.

Groups would be labeled for what their reputation was gained on. Before this song, Extreme had no ballads. A rap group can do a rock song, a rock artist can do country, a country artist can release rock tracks. A jazz player can suddenly come up with such a catchy hook on a trumpet or saxophone, it ends up on the pop charts. Nobody ever thought about "coloring inside the lines" then. Your song was whatever it was. Usually, when writing a song, you don't know if it will be country, rock, folky, ........it just is the song that you pulled from the ether in that moment with your instrument that amazed yourself or caught your own ear that becomes the magic, no matter from what influences you drew from.
