volbeats singer mike poulsen told a story in an interview about how his dad was a big fan of elvis and when mike came to the U.S. he wanted to visit graceland in honor of his father and when he was driving there, he got lost. then he seen an eagle and something made him follow it and it led him right to graceland. he believed his dads spirit was in the eagle showing him the way and wrote the song " dead but rising" about the experience.

I had opportunity to meet Michael at 1 of their concerts, and thanked him for this song. He looked a little puzzled and asked why.? I replied that hearing this song, allowed me to really open up emotionally about losing my dad. He smiled, didn't need to say anything.

Volbeat are just special. They can impart emotions so well, while still making things seem upbeat. Like they see the silver lining, even when they can't reach it. Love them.

Those the connect with music tend to have a certain collection of songs that really bring our emotions to the surface for a specific person/memory/situation. When my dad passed in '08, my parents were living near the beach. That evening just before sunset I walked down to the ocean with a cooler and either spotify or my mp3 player and just sat quietly with my headphones blaring, tears streaming down my face, staring blankly at the surf and people walking the beach. While a good number of songs played then, I probably listend to The Offspring's "Gone Away" no fewer than 10x. To this day, it still has the potential to make my eyes wet. Fast forward to around 5yrs ago and one of my best friends' father lost his battle with cancer. "Fallen" became that song for him and anytime we were hanging out with music on he'd ask for it to be cued up. While I liked the song well enough then, I didn't pay super close attention to all the lyrics. This past January that friend took his own life and now "Fallen" is that song for friend gone to soon. Great reaction Amanda! I've had people ask me why I would choose to have songs in my playlists that can bring up these emotions. My response is usually it serves as a reminder to myself that I do still feel and care and when there are days I would rather not feel at all. Those days I also tend to find Three Days Grace's song "I Am Machine" in my listening. Even if you never do a YT reaction vid for it, you should give it a listen. Keep up the excellent videos and stay strong!

So sorry to see you sad, but at same time glad to see this song brought out some of the same emotions it did for me. This is the 1st Volbeat song that i heard on radio that drew me to this band. I struggle to understand the meaning of all the lyrics. But his voice, the guitarist and especially the drummer just have made me almost obsessed with this music. I love the variety of types of music they play. Hope you listen to more of their music. On a whole differerent musician have you ever listened yo ANGELS by robbie williams? I lost my little brother, my nephew and my mother all in last 2 years. I come from large family but these are HUGE losses for me. Music helps get thru rough days as well as just making their memory pop into my head, i never want to forget!

Vol Beat is one of my favorite bands. You can instantly know their songs by the sound. I know our families are watching us, sometimes painfully from the other side. I lost my dad in 2003 and I know he is proud of me and I feel his presence. It's good to know they are there and we will meet again one day.

This could be my favorite Volbeat song just due to the same reason you have. My mom died in 2019 and that was hard enough, but I started getting closer with my dad after. I lived far away and he wasn't a big talker, but after 2019 we talked on the phone alot more and it was awesome. And then in 2021 he was gone. I found Volbeat after that and this song knocked me over as well. I love how music can just heal your soul after it makes you realize what you had, not what you lost!! Great reaction!!

My Aunt Dee Dee's was a second mother to me, and I discovered Volbeat in the same time period she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. We used to play cards at her house every Saturday night and listened to music while we played. We would go around the table and each person got to pick a song, we would just keep doing that all night while we played. Once I started playing Volbeat songs, my aunt fell in love with them too. Her husband, Uncle Steve, drank himself to death when I was 19 and she missed him so much, they were so in love they acted like school kids in love everyday even in their 40s when he passed. She passed when I was 28. Anyway, they have a song called "lonesome rider" and if you watch the video and listen to the lyrics it's obviously about two lovers meeting again in the afterlife and being happy and together forever. She loved that song and it always made her cry at a certain point. Now it does the same thing to me, but as I'm crying uncontrollably, I'm also smiling ear to ear. MISS YOU SO MUCH, Aunt DD & Uncle Steve, Love you so much, Little Jim

I tell you, many bands and songs have kept me breathing in this world. Listening to the words and rhythms of the music is my therapy. My doctors have recently diagnosed me with mild manic depression, survivor's guilt, and morbid imagination. I fight every day not to turn back to the bottle as some of the meds amplify the alcohol. But we must keep our chins up high and move forward. Amanda, I appreciate you with every ounce of my being. One big band I turn to is Suicidal Tendencies, especially the songs "Hearing Voices" and "How will I laugh tomorrow if I cannot even smile today." I know you have reacted to How will I laugh. but hearing voices is pretty awesome also.

I’m so sorry that you’ve lost all of them!!! That has to be beyond words awful to have dealt with! Sometimes music & yelling the words at the top of your lungs is the only way, I guess. At least for me, because my initial response is like the above lady’s father “scream a slew of curse words” & the fist comes down….so, I try the to remember the music approach first 😁☺️ I am terribly sorry for All of your losses 😿💙🐬🧚🏼‍♀️

The singer and James Hetfield from metallica, ate at a restaurant I worked at. I wasn't there, but I enjoyed working in a place people like them would eat at. Old Danish inn food. As the singer said "James is kinda like a plumber and we like eating real food". Volbeat was warmup for Metallica for a while on a longer tour. Fun fact: The singer Michael Poulsen started out in death metal and is going back to it now. Us Danes (the ones listening to them) asked if he would please start singing so people can understand what the hell he's singing as he swallows up most words and it's embarrassing.

You survived a suicide attempt ? Well so did I. My wife of 23 years and the mother of our 2 kids left me because she didn't understand what was happening with me. Mental health has a stigma that not everyone is prepared to deal with. Listen to Rush the pass. It deals with depression and suicidal tendencies. Deep song and the video is deep.
