The Fishbone rhythm section was insane. And this song is such a great demonstration of Bootsy’s teachings on emphasizing the “1” in the bar. Norwood hits the “1” hard then wanders around coming back to the “1” right in the pocket every time.

I saw them live in '89 on the Truth and Soul tour here in Birmingham, UK. Small venue with only around a 100 people there as they weren't well known here back then (and didn't take off hugely anyway) but to this day is one of the tightest bands I've ever seen with an amazing amount of energy.

I bought this tape at Wal-Mart in Duncan, OK in 1988. It was truly life-changing. I hadn't heard one note of Fishbone before then. The lyrical content resonated hard with me: divorce, anti-fascism, f*ck racism....and the music was a delirious mix of funk, punk, r&b, gospel. About a year later I heard Bad Brains for the first time.

I’m glad you finally got around to Fishbone. They are the most incredible I’ve band I have ever seen and I’ve seen a lot of shows. I was such a huge fan in the late 80s and early 90s that i ran there, unofficial website and had semi regular conversations with Angelo, the lead singer and Norwood as well. They are still touring with several of the original members, including Norwood and Angelo. Their drummer Fish Fisher is incredible as well. There’s a concert video of them where one of the band members in describing their music says that they are as tight as mosquitoes asshole, or something to that effect. It couldn’t be more true. They aren’t at their peak any longer as they are in their late 50s, but they are still incredible and if you get an opportunity to see them live, you should not miss it. I would love to see you do more Fishbone reactions. They have so many great songs across many genres.
