That was actually Taylor Hawkins on the drums, who tragically passed away in March of 2022, Josh replaced him later in the year. I think you should check out Monkey Wrench next!

It is one of those weird twists of fate. On one hand, if Kurt had lived, would Nirvana have continued to thrive still? But in that scenario, we probably wouldn't have discovered how incredible Dave actually is in every way. We wouldn't have gotten Taylor Hawkins and Dave's amazing friendship and fun all these years either (Taylor could sing too btw... lots of concert footage). Just an abundance of talented people. But my heart breaks for Dave - as a drummer he lost his lead singer and friend then as a lead singer, he lost his drummer and friend.

I love watching Dave drumming like Animal from the Muppets on New Day Rising with Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü) [kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnnNeXWln7KmiNU]. Hüsker Dü was a huge influence on many 90s bands, and Dave is a big fan, so it was cool to see them play a Hüsker song together. New Day Rising is a 2-minute banger that Hüsker Dü opened pretty much every concert with. 3:58… that little “guitar stutter/drums pause” part in the bridge gets me every time… such a brilliant nuance to add when most people would’ve just played the riff and the drums straight through (which still would’ve sounded fine, but that little deviation from the expected takes it to another level for me)

Yay! My favorite Foo song! Some of my GFs and I have made inappropriate jokes about wanting to be that microphone. Haha OK, but then you had to go talk about Taylor Hawkins, the freaking amazing drummer. Not Josh, he's the new drummer. Taylor passed away almost two years ago after about 25 years with the Foos. I still get tears about it.

That was Taylor Hawkins on drums. He passed in 2023. The first show foo fighters performed following Taylor’s death had his son Shane taking the drummer position.

Dave is the man… besides being drummer for Nirvana; he can really blow it out! also, he’s the main founder, song-writer, often lead guitarist, plays rhythm, can, if necessary, play bass, but at a minimum, and don’t forget, he can always go back to the drums if necessary. so, he’s like, the main impetus behind this bands success. the “Foo Fighters” are a product of his mind, and talent, laid down on pure, unadulterated music. and yeah bother, some ppl don’t get it… they just don’t get it. but I believe they’ll always get that this man can sing, if they don’t get the songs msg. great vid, good reaction @Anthony!

''Marigold" is an obscure Nirvana song that Dave Grohl wrote and sang lead on... Nirvana was Kurt Cobain's band, so he wrote most of the songs... Grohl did quite a bit of backing vocals while in Nirvana though... their producer Butch Vig who worked on their 'Nevermind' album admitted that he felt Dave Grohl could be a good lead singer. Taylor Hawkins (drums) played on this record in 2005... Sadly, Taylor Hawkins passed away in 2022 after he was found dead in a hotel in Colombia, S. America from an apparent OD on prescription drugs (R.I.P.) - he had joined as a touring drummer for Foo Fighters in 1997 and contributed drum tracks to Foo Fighters records (Dave Grohl did too) from 1999 until his death... Taylor Hawkins was a phenomenal drummer and was a huge fan of Neil Peart of Rush. Josh Freese (drums) joined Foo Fighters as a touring drummer (Dave Grohl played drums on the latest Foo Fighters album 'Bute here we are' in 2023) ... However, Josh Freese has been a high profile studio and live drummer since the 90's for his punk rock band The Vandals... Freese has played on (so many) major albums by Evanescence ('Fallen') ... Suicidal Tendencies ('The art of rebellion') ... Chris Cornell ('Euphoria morning')... 3 Doors Down ('Away from the Sun')... Seether ('Disclaimer') ... Static-X ('Shadow Zone') ... The Offspring ('Splinter') ...Nine Inch Nails ('The Slip') ... etc. etc.

I will always remember the great Super Bowl halftime show by Prince in 2007. He picked up his guitar and started playing "All Along the Watchtower" and went straight into this song, "Best of You" before he brought down the house (in the rain) with his signature song, "Purple Rain."

It was so amazing. Dave has said that was his 'proudest musical achievment'. He was a huge Prince fan. He tells a great story about getting to play drums with Prince in an empty practice space/stage with no audience, hardly anyone saw & it blew his mind.

Roswell is Dave Grohl's "label" and it exists so that the Foo Fighters can own their own music so the other labels just distribute their songs but don't own the recordings. Because Dave was established because of Nirvana, he was aboe to avoid the tyoe of industry deals that late the labels own the artists' music.

I saw in the last video you talked about H.E.R having a song with Foo Fighters. In fact, it's a recent version that they did live on some TV show of the song The Glass, it was really cool. The song in question is from the latest album "But Here We Are" marked by pure emotion after the deaths of Taylor Hawkins and Dave's mother. This particular song is about Dave's mother, Virginia. Even if you don't make a video reacting, you should listen to this version, it's really cool!

Unpopular opinion: I get almost no enjoyment whatsoever out of listening to Nirvana; but I could listen to the Foo Fighters every day. Nirvana is bleak and morose to me, but something about FF ... even this song, which is hardly sunny pop ... just makes me feel *happy*. It just blows my mind that I don't know of a single rock band today that has members younger than 35. Let's go, kids, plug in some fucking guitars already!!

Essentially correct, but there's some other history there. Dave and the Foos were signed to Capitol Records at first, and they released the first 2 albums. During production the of the Foos 3rd album, the president of Capitol, Gary Gersch, was ousted. Dave knew Gersch from his Nirvana days, and made sure to include a "key man clause" in their contract with Capitol stating that the Foos could void their contract with Capitol if their key guy left. And they did... Capitol execs pulled a power play to get rid of a president they didn't like without realizing that they were going to lose one of their most profitable bands by doing so. Oops! 😂😂

Dave is my rock husband ❤. As a side note, the one time that I saw Nirvana, Kurt was messed up and Dave carried the next few songs. It was a sad time. Kurt was gone shortly after. This drummer was Taylor 😢

Dave has said that he had his sister who was in an abusive relationship in mind when he wrote this. He was really frustrated she couldn't escape. Other people have already mentioned Taylor so I won't repeat other than to say RIP. Josh Freeze is an amazing drummer w/around 300 albums to his name. He was an original founding member of A Perfect Circle. They are another great band I recommend you react to. Their lead singer is the lead singer from Tool. The Outsider, Weak and Powerless, The Hollow, or Judith would all be good to start with. However, if you do Judith, I would recommend following it up with Tool's 10000 days and Wings for Marie (that's wings for Marie part 1 and 2 in order) off of the 10000 days album. All 3 were written about Maynard's mother and the illness she suffered for decades before passing, and his perspective at 2 different times in his life. Judith is much earlier, and Wings 1 and 2 are at the time of her passing. You are good about looking up details. So, if you decide to do those 3 in a row, please google the information so your listeners have that context as well. Great stuff man, keep up the good work.

Sorry, Andrew, but I gotta roast you a bit for that, dude. Anyway, After playing several live gigs with the band after Hawkins' passing, Josh Freese was announced as the Fighters' permenant drummer in May of last year. Freese is mostly know for his session work as well as playing with bands like Guns 'N' Roses and one of Maynard Keenan's other bands, A Perfect Circle.
