They don't make them like they used to. Frank Sinatra was such a smooth crooner. This is before auto tuning. Artists had to be really able to sing. And the lyrics were clean, romantic & really meant something. He has a huge library of great songs. Some of my favorites are "Fly Me To The Moon", New York, New York", "Strangers In The Night", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "That's Life", "My Way", "My Kind Of Town", "Summer Wind" etc. And he did a duet with his daughter Nancy called "Something Stupid" in 1967.

Frank was the original singing heartthrob for female fans. They didn't start screaming for Elvis in the 50s. They started screaming for Frank in the 40s, though the screaming was on a whole other level with Elvis. You should check out the video of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley together singer each other's songs. It's on a tv show from the 50s-- really cool!

@@greeneyedsoutherngirl6468 Yes, even Vallee himself said Frank's fans were on a whole different level. What he didn't say- what few will acknowledge- is that Frank's hysteria wasn't exclusively about singing, or even about singing at all, but about something else. The word hysteria, itself, is derived from the prefix "hyster," which is Greek for uterus.

It doesn't matter who else songs this song, it belongs to Sinatra and always will. If you knew Sinatras life story, you would understand how powerful and spot on this song is for him. The story goes that Frank didn't care for this song much, but it became synonymous with him. He learned to embrace it and it's one of his all time most famous hits. Elvis covered "My Way" (look for the video, I don't recall from which concert). It is also synonymous with his life as we know it. A perfect fit for both of these unconventional artists who both stepped out of the box and became legends. Elivs' career was short lived but he impacted and changed the music world. Sinatra had A lengthy career as a ballad singer /crooner. Both were loved by all but especially by the ladies. There is a great video out of Sinatra and Elvis together, live on the tv stage singing together. Sinatra sings Elvis' song "Love me Tender" and Elvis sings Sinatra's "Witchcraft". Check it out. They both also did movie musicals and more serious roles. They both refused to work in places that would not allow their black performers in. More Sinatra songs: " I've Got The World on a String" "Fly Me to the Moon" "New York, New York" "Chicago, My Kind of Town" "you Make Me Feel So Young" ( London 1962) Like Elvis, Sinatra has a deep rabbit hole of songs to delve into. Check out Sinatra's movie, "Robin and the 7 Hoods". It has great songs in it. The movie stars "The Rat Pa ck" A group of stars that Sinatra hung around with. Check out the song and dance # by Sammy Davis Jr. In the movie called "Bang Bang" Sammy Davis Jr. Is someone you should react to. He Is one of the greatest performers ever! Check out his video ( live from Germany) of Mr. Bojangles. Love your enthusiasm to discover new music and great singers from the past; legends and icons.

I love how open you to discovering many different genres of music. So glad you discovered your first crooner. Elvis did a great cover of "My Way" Live from Hawaii. Being from Chicago, my favorite Sinatra song is "My Kind of Town (Chicago is)". Here are a few more entertainers from this genre: Dean Martin, called the King of Cool, my favorites are "Everybody Loves Somebody", "Volare", "That's Amore", and "Baby, It's Cold Outside" Sammy Davis, Jr., who started entertaining at age 3, my favorite songs are "I Gotta Be Me", "What Kind of Fool Am I" & "That Old Black Magic" Bing Crosby, one of the first crooners, my favorites are his Christmas songs "White Christmas" & "Do You Hear What I Hear"

Him, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop. They partied and goofed their own way and were like the most famous entertainers in Las Vegas.

Sinatra was not only an incredible singer, he was famous and influential to a level few have ever been before or since. For example, he single handedly ended Jim Crow/racist policies in venues throughout the south and in Vegas. He refused to perform anywhere his friend (and fellow Rat Pack member) Sammy Davis Jr couldn't stay and he was such a draw they all caved or went under. The way he phrases songs - the rhythm, placement of notes - is legend. Do Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. songs for Christmas season. Gold standards. One For My Baby and One More For the Road is probably my favorite of his non holiday repertoire.

A note... there are perhaps a dozen artists I have heard in my life whose voice is utterly clear and identifiable even across a crowded and noisy room. They are few and far between. Males are Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Harry Belafonte, Louis Armstrong and a handful of others. Frank was one of these. You don't get in that company by accident. I once read a list of places Frank played in a single year early in his career. He played something like two hundred and twenty different places (Out of year with 365 days) - each in a different town. This in the days of bad cars and trains so he must have traveled constantly... as in, all the time! The play lists for each of the venues WERE ALL DIFFERENT. That means he had to know and perform two hundred plus songs . That kind of training... that kind of range... that kind of versatility in inconceivable today. It is no wonder he managed later to become the voice that even today affects people.

Frank's influence extended way beyond music. Sinatra forced The Sands, a Las Vegas strip casino, to start desegregating Vegas in 1953 by refusing to perform until they gave Sammy Davis Jr. a room. Frank then invited Sammy's band to open for him at The Sands. He was known as a fervent anti-racist and one of the first prominent white supporters of the civil rights movement. He's known for his music and rightly so, but it's good to remember that he used his notoriety for something beyond lining his own pockets.
