Maaaann....y'all don't know what you're getting into when you start reviewing Parliament/Funkadelic/Bootsy's Rubber Band/George Clinton stuff. That is high level, military-grade uncut FUNK! As you delve more into the rich history and traditions of black music you will be able to start understanding where hip hop and rap evolved from. As George said "funk ain't nothing but the blues sped up". The blues led to Jazz which led to rock and roll and soul music which led to funk. Funk spawned disco and from there came hip hop and house music....it's alł connected!

Back in the day, there was no head bopping...this was the jam. Everybody danced. When you were done, you left the dance floor with hair messed up, makeup wore off, dude's shirts were sopping wet. Mann, folks don't know nothing 'bout this here. Wasn't nobody sitting around snapping pics and taking videos. Everybody was so into having a good time showing off their clothes and their latest dance moves.

Y'all have to listen to "One Nation Under A Groove" now. OR, OMG, "Mothership Connection" by Clinton's other band, Parliament. What a terrific song: "Swing down, sweet chariot, stop and let me riiiide..." Man, it was such fun being a little kid in the 1970s. I've got nothing against the 1980s, I was a teenager in the 80s (and, yes, we had Prince, Bowie, Public Enemy, New Order, all those great acts), but the 70s. _::sigh::_ Boy, do I miss so many things about the 70s.

Only Used That Name Cuz GC Had Parliament Tied Up Legally. Now I Agree If They’re On This Than They Need ALL P-Funk In They’re Lives, But These Young Dude’s Would Think You Mean A Whole Different Group When It’s Not. Their Best Work Is On The Parliament Records I Think Myself Produced By Bootsy And GC.

@Tommy Swenomson, Omg thanks for that! I had forgot this one , thought it was thank you for letting me be myself all those years. My mother actually brought sly and some of the band home to my Grandpas house for dinner ! It was late sixties, and even at four yrs I remember them at our table. I also remember how uncomfortable my Grandpa was cuz he was the tall , dark, skinny version of Irish Archie Bunker, and a sailor to boot. I love those memories, the times of my life, And my ❤️ will always be in Vallejo Ca! Thanks for the memories, Love and light Evie

When I think of Sly's Funk, the song that comes to my mind is a song I first heard on the radio in 1971 at 7 years old called "Thank you for letting me be myself"... At that time, I wasn't aware of what Funk was, but Sly showed me

And that was the short version!! When you have time, listen to the song Funkentelechy. It’s long but has a message behind the lyrics that ring true today. By the way, what you heard in the background is the Brides Of Funkenstein, Bootsy Collins’ base, maybe Maceo Parker and some innovative (for that time) synthesizers, all in sync. So grateful to be a part of the 70s Funketeers!!!!

I was at a low-point in my life a few years ago and started busking on the street for money 🥁 I was certainly 'not just knee deep'... I was NECK deep in debt & depression with no job. But I would play this song every day on the pier and just let the vibes flow (I also played stuff like Stevie Wonder, MJ, Bob Marley or The Beatles etc.) and I saw firsthand how transformative this music is for people of all backgrounds and generations. Then one day I was approached by this older Black couple, homeboy was wearing what I can only describe as a pimp suit-he told me he played trumpet for George Clinton and wanted to jam with me. He didn't have his equipment but he said he liked to freestyle-straight up-so I laid a beat and he laid a verse and the rest was history. A crowd gathered, people were dancing, everyone was lovin' it, and afterward he even showed me some photos of him and George backstage at their last gig. I never made more money busking than on that fine evening and soon after I was able to secure a better job and afford to stop busking for money altogether... but I'll never forget the day I jammed with a P-Funk All-Star. Long Live tha Funk 🎶

@@d.sepulveda7669 We may have from a distance😂 I love old school music its all I listen 🎶 to thanks to SiriusXM I'm on it like (white on rice) I'm telling my age 😀 😉. This new music is not my type of sound I'm an OG, from the 70's to 90's I still get down on it. 🤜🏾💥🤛🏾✌🏾✊🏾

Love seeing the reaction and your facial expressions when both of you hear each song. I am a 60 year old female and every time I heard this song in the club, house party, cookouts etc. I just had to get up and dance..This song bring back so many memories.. Both of you young men keep listening to each songs, and I'm going to keep enjoying watching your facial reactions..It makes my heart smile..

I do believe parliament was out before Sly. George Clinton was influenced by James Brown and the JBs.
