Hey man, cool first reaction to Gacharic Spin - a slightly random first song to choose, but then that could probably be applied to most of their catalogue! :) They range through pop-punk-rock-electro-jazz-prog-metal..... Regarding the tape, guitar and bass spins are a feature of their high energy performance, so the tape is there in case of a strap-lock fail. Oreo, the keyboard player is the one with the higher vocal part that you picked out - her range does go that high, but they are also known to use various vocal effects to enhance a song where appropriate so I think you were hearing an effect on the voice but not a pitch shift. In terms of pronunciation, its ga-cha-rick spin, with the cha sound being a soft ch like "chant" but don't worry everyone gets confused about it - the easy way is to call them GS... :) p.s. they have a side project called Doll$boxx which is more consistently in hard-rock/metal, same guitar, bass, keyboard and the main singer here is the drummer...(its confusing at first!). The lead singer for Doll$boxx is Fuki from Unlucky Morpheus which is another band you don't appear to have a reaction for? Also highly recommended.

Ahhh, the tape makes even more sense now! Super high vocal range, really cool timber as well. Nice one, GS is probably what I'll go with, lol Doll$boxx- they've been on my list to check out for ages, will need to give them a look in. Thanks a tonne for sharing those insights!

I didn't realise you hadn't done them before! They are an essential band to explore - extremely diverse, but your "ball of energy" description is usually accurate. Thanks as ever for your insights. Btw on the pronunciation, "Gacharic" is three syllables, emphasis on the first (or actually not on any, but putting the emphasis on the first is the best approximation). The "cha-" bit is pronounced like it is in the word "chat".

The gaffa is actually that heavily applied, cause they usually do guitar spins as part of their shows, which really puts stress on the strap-locks ... No pitch shift for the high vocals, they keyboarder has that kind of range. They do use vocal effects, but not pitch shifting ones afaik. Modulations and playing around with unexpected major/minor chords are a typical tool in their toolbox ... Cheers and hoping you'll do more of their songs :)
@Wyl7
@Wyl7 21 күн бұрын
Yeah, when they use vocal effects they tend to be so heavy handed that you know they’re not trying to use them to mask anything. Like with Autotune for example, when they use it it’s as an effect, not an attempt to “fix” badly pitched notes.

Since that's the guitar she always uses for her guitar swirls, I guess the tape is for some extra security to stop the strap from coming off, keeping the guitar from flying off while doing so.

If you're notice there's battery on the side the output jack, that's for LED lights around her guitar, so the tape is for guitar straps, cable, and LED battery.

Them being a "ball of energy" is a very good description because even though they do have some more ballad-y tracks, the majority of their tracks are high energy. They also described themselves originally as a entertainment group instead of a music band which is why a lot of their songs and actions are meant to get the crowd to move. They are among my favourite artists to watch live (Zutomayo is an other one) because how much is going on during their sets. It also means that they have several of their older tracks where all versions are worth checking out just because of the changes and weird shenanigans they came up with on stage. All the iterations of the band basically brought something new to some of their older tracks and I don't know a lot of bands where that is the case. This year is their 15th anniversary (they do a set for it in a couple of days).

There are 2 thing that I play attention to when watching Gacharic Spin, those being what instrument Hana is playing and who is the lead singer for the song. Hana, in addition to being a vocalist, can play something like 10 instruments, usually it is either Drums or Guitar, but sometimes there are others as well (right at the start she is holding one of the Roland Aerophone AE line (a digital wind instrument that lets you play sax, clarinet, flute, violin, synth sounds and more) so I thought we were getting that but no that must have been the last song). As for who the lead singer of the song is usually it is Hana and/or Angie (pink hair) but sometimes you get Oreo (keyboards) or rarely Tomo-Zo (guitars). Hana is one of those rare drummers that can sing lead and play drums at the same time.

@@JbfMusicGuitar For sure, someone was going to make an instrument like it sooner or later, this gives more options for wind players. It uses Saxophone fingering so that limits the number of musicians that can use it, but it was also a smart choice because the music saxophones are typically used in seems, to me, more welcoming to abilities of the Aerophone. Hopefully they will expand the available types of digital wind instruments in the future.

Great intro - jamming with Gacharic Spin can't be easy, even if you make it look easy! A brilliant mix of Funk and Jazz (especially between the keyboards and bass), Rock/Metal and loads of extra fun and energy. Their MV's are damn fine too. The name comes from the Japanese word Gacha, which means Clattering, as in chaotic or dissimilar sounds mixed together - although they do it melodically and interestingly. PS Band-Maid just dropped (45 mins ago) a new MV from the new album they released last week.

Great reaction and you've discovered Gacharic Spin, that is best described as loosely contained chaos on stage and all the musicians are some of the best in Japan. Gacharic Spin is one of my favorite bands (along with Band-Maid). The band was formed in 2009 by bassist F Chopper Koga and her friend from high school, Hana (second guitarist in this video - she was the original drummer). At that time, Hana was playing bass in another band and switched to drums (she is a multi-instrumentalist). Together they found guitarist Eita and singer Armmy and as a non-member, Oreo, for keyboards. After a few concerts on their first tour, Eita left the band. Oreo's band Eu Phoria, in which Tomo-Zo was guitarist, had just split up so Tomo-Zo could start at Gacharic Spin. Oreo supported the band with Keyboards at concerts in 2010 and 2011. After Armmy left the band in 2012 due to health issues (she later passed away), Oreo became a member. In 2019 they added the singer Angie (pink hair when she was around 18) and a new drummer Yuri so that the original drummer (Hana) could move upfront as second guitarist.

I note the video has taken 2 years to appear. Have you done a video on Mindset by GS or has also been blocked ? For some old school guitar soloing you might try Patto's "Give It All Away" from the album "Hold Your Fire" from the early 70s. (Sadly no live footage exist so you'll have to pick one of the album versions on youtube. ) Guitar by Ollie Halsall. I believe he also played piano on this track as well. (First started playing in a band aged 15 - on drums. A year later changed to vibraphone before switching again to guitar at 17. Picked piano and bass as well along the way. Best known for his work on the Rutles albums, but Patto is where his best work was done.
