The funny thing is, that country is actually more often like this. The problem is that people want to share songs that they have sentimental and emotional attachment to. With country that tends to be beautiful, sappy, and too often sad songs. This is not how you win over a crowd that is unfamiliar with the complete works of the artists. They walk away thinking country is not for them. Seriously, do actual fans sit around listening to the sad, serious, pain stricken side of country. You get people willing to at least try country and only recommended the sad, slow, sentimental songs. Well their initial opinion of country is now solidified. Recommendations should pull people in and then work your way to those meaningful songs, eventually. Just give them enough time to enjoy songs they can connect to and appreciate like this one before you change gears. I get it, I do. I have a playlist called Grandpa and Grandma that have all those slower, sadder songs from the 1940's through 1970's. I enjoy this playlist when I want to walk down memory lane, occasionally, but I won't be pushing it onto someone who enjoys rock, hip-hop, etc.... For those people I give them songs off my 'Put Some Drive in Your Country' playlist named after the Travis Tritt song and occasionally dip into the Country playlist for the mix of more contemporary (1970's onwards) sentimental, 'tear in my beer,' and upbeat tunes once they are ready for it. He should try: I Don't Need Your Rocking Chair by George Jones, Why'd You Come in Here Looking Like That by Dolly Parton, Move It On Over by Hank Williams, Born to Boogie by Hank Williams Jr. and Watch Me By Lorrie Morgan Dwight Yoakam has a reputation for sad, sad songs, but if you really look at his catalog those super sad ones are there, but it contains way more sass, and upbeat tunes than it contains sorrowful ones. Try: Things Change, Sorry You Asked?, and Fast As You. He also does a nice cover of Long White Cadillac.

It's not officially recorded anywhere that I know of. And a piece of trivia, the lady with the long blond hair is Trisha Yearwood. She toured with him (she has an amazing voice herself) and they wound up getting married. A high, high energy song that was crazy to watch in person is, "Ain't Goin' Down Til The Sun Comes Up." I love sharing this story... my hometown used to hold a chili cookoff competition and fair in the early fall. Around 1987, the committee hired a Oklahoman by the name of Garth Brooks to play that year's cookoff. The day before the cookoff his band drives down, but he was still working his construction job, so he planned on driving down the next day. The day rolls around, and he calls the committee to tell them his truck had broke down. A couple of the guys go up to Oklahoma (I'm in Texas) and pick him up, he performs and rocks my little hometown, and goes home with his band. A few years later, this song comes on the radio and just explodes. The other thing is the high school, for about six months, had an old-fashioned jukebox in the cafeteria so we could play whatever we wanted. One of the reasons why it was removed was because there was a continuous fight over what was being played: Back in Black for the metalheads, whatever NKOTB song was out at the time for the pop fiends, and Friends in Low Places for the ropers. The entire cafeteria would usually stop eating and start singing Friends whenever the ropers got to the jukebox.
