I'm not even a "country" fan typically, but when this song comes on, even I sing along. It was pretty popular even at college parties just a couple of years ago... in the middle of rap songs, someone would cut this song on, and everyone would sing along to the iconic line... "blame it all on my roots, I showed up in boots."

On August 7th, 1997, Garth Brooks held a free concert in Central Park, which is in Manhattan, New York City. He was afraid that "nobody would show up" because country music was obviously more of a rural thing and obviously the center of New York City is not exactly rural. To his surprise, an estimated more than one million people showed up.

Classic...😂😂😂 that’s ridiculous! In a damn preppy club on 6th street in Austin maybe. Go in a real country joint like here in Tennessee, they don’t want that crap playing anywhere. I was in the Army when this was popular. It started the goat ropers trend. Big belt buckles, wranglers, cowboy hat, but not an oz of country in them. The goat ropers are who we used to search for and stomp their guts out their asses. That’s hilarious...classic American Pub music...🤣🤣

Just to let you know how huge of an artist Garth is. Garth is the first artist in history-in any genre-to receive nine diamond awards for nine albums certified by the RIAA for 10 million album sales each, and he remains the best-selling solo artist in U.S. history certified by the RIAA with over 170 million album sales. He has received every accolade the recording industry can bestow on an artist, including being inducted into the International Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame. In 2016, he won the CMA Entertainer of the Year award for a record fifth time.

Garth is technically the most successful living musician of all time. Wrap your mind around that
@davidcooley275
@davidcooley275 3 жыл бұрын
Technically i think that is true. Depends on what success means. In the music industry making money can be hard when everyone is ripping your songs off on the internet. That is why artists have to travel and play concerts as that money is for sure. Success could mean just name recognition...
@1sTEfFaniE1

@@davidcooley275 concerts have always been the main money maker for singers, artists make money off of their CDs of course but I think most of the money goes to the record companies themselves. This is why s lot of bands don't mind their music being ripped off online, because it gains them more fans and sells more concert tickets.

Garth was so huge in the 90's....so huge. Couldn't turn on the radio or the country music channel without him being on every ten minutes. He had an Alter Ego named Chris Gaines who did more rock type music, and 14 year old me ate that up. He had a whole backstory to this new character and it was so weird, but I liked it.

Garth Brooks and his people SCRAPE KZbin and every other streaming video and audio platform of Garth's music. Even personal vids from concerts are hard to find. It's almost impossible to find Garth Brooks songs online except at Amazon and Walmart. It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen, but it's his business model I guess. The only reason this performance and a few other live versions of Garth's songs can be found on KZbin is usually because someone else (like here, The Kelly Clarkson Show) put them up and have rights to them.

My Dad was on tour with him way back when. The stories I heard about how great he treated everyone were amazing. He would get stores to open at 2 am then give everyone hundreds of dollars to spend. He rented a baseball stadium because he wanted to play softball with the crew then had it catered with a bbq. If they were in one town for several days he would buy plane tickets for anyone who wanted to go home for a couple of days. I have a pic with him with his arm around my Dad what you can't see is he is pinching my Dad as hard as he can trying to get him to react on camera.

Not really. I think Luke Combs has something to say about that. And if you do not know who the new artist is that is part of the problem. Here in Nashville the old school stuff will always be good but new blood brings in new money and more important, fans who listen to some of the new stuff and didn't realize they are country music fans. Don't get me wrong as nobody will replace George Jones, Conway Twitty, and the other greats but money from sales is king...

It is a proper country tune as you so eloquently state! I’m not a country lover at all but this is one of my favorite songs and it’s certainly a party anthem. And of course we love Kelly Clarkson because she’s cute as shit!

I am not a big Brooks fan but if you missed the Biden inauguration Garth had a big part and is married to another country music star here in Nashville, Trisha Yearwood. Although not a big fan of Brooks i think the music industry has to appreciate how Garth came up in the industry compared to the new stars who had it given to them on shows like American Idol. Superstars like Brooks and Keith Urban have both documented on camera how they played smoky bars, jukejoints, weddings, big malls, etc to learn the skills they now have. Keith even talked about how things would go bad on set in his early days and they would have to adjust on the spot and even commented how the some of the newer tv stars just never learned those skills. That does not take away from the newer stars talent but i think the readers here get my point. Garth played for over decade at college bars as a no name, then went to Nashville twice to make it bigtime and both times came back to Oklahoma sad and rejected he said in his interview. The man played college football and learned through team sports to never give up and his 3rd try in Nashville in 1988 some local music reps decided to finally give him a shot and the rest is history. You have to admire his dedication and never give up attitude.

You need to watch a concert version of this (crowd level "11") or the version he did with Justin Timberlake.

Garth brooks is the second best selling artist of all time. Second only to the Beatles. He is a superstar and a total gentleman. You should watch some interviews with him.

A lot of American linguists claim the southern twang and substandard grammar is a direct result of so many Schotch, Irish and Welsh people settling the American South, while Puritans and more sophisticated Britons settled the North. I still can't wrap my head around thinking that some UK people used to speak like this in the 17th and 18th centuries.
