I remember when "Alone Again (Naturally)" was a big hit. "Gilbert" O'Sullivan is an Irish singer-songwriter who had some great songs in the 1970's such as "Clair", "Get Down", "Nothing Rhymed", "We Will" etc.

Great job ! One of the greatest songs ever . Although it speaks of heartbreak , suicide and death it doesn't bring me down . It's a happy , light tune with depressing lyrics but it works perfectly ! Used to play this record as a kid and listen to it over n over again , I'm 60 years old now and still listen to it over n over , lol. All time classic ! 🎙🎶

I love Gilbert O'Sullivan. That song in particular is so sad. There are so many wonderful songs you could listen to - Claire (will you marry me Uncle Ray?) Nothing Rhymed and so many more.

You've done something A LOT of Podcasters didn't and don't give Artist from The Best Era of Singer/Songwriters, without jumping in, stopping the Video, and half azz Critiquing!!!! Thanks for listiening, without tripping on yourself. Just watched a Hip Hop Podcaster DISS his audience talking to them like they were knuckleheads!!!! Thank GOD I remember this Song when I was a kid, and knowing from the Jump just what this Song was about............smdh. Thanks Stan!!!!

I congratulate you on blindly stepping out of the familiar. This is one of my 10 favorite songs by anyone. It is sadder than a thrift store painting but so poignant. Thank you, Stan. I hope 2023 is off to a great start for you.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (Real name Raymond Edward O'Sullivan) in an interview, said this song was not about his life. It was just an idea that he came up with and wrote. "Alone Again (Naturally)" is an introspective ballad, starting with the singer contemplating suicide after being left at the altar after his bride deserted him, and then telling about the death of his parents. O'Sullivan has said that the song is not autobiographical, as he did not know his father (who died when O'Sullivan was 11) very well, and that his father had mistreated his mother. Also, his mother was still alive when the song was written.
