This song is actually almost 20 years old. It was released in 2002. I remember first hearing this song in the movie Honey with Jessica Alba. Back then I was a little too young to really appreciate this song until I heard Drake's version of this song off his Comeback Season Mixtape. Now both versions are classics to me.

Goapele, is one of those beautifully unique artists...I don’t even want to categorize her. I love that she’s an indie artist and is doing her thing. I saw her live last year back home and it was very nice.
@dxwallace554 жыл бұрын
I agree, she's in the same category to me (though a different style) as newcomer Lianne La Havas (pull up Lianne's video "Tokyo" if you're one for cool new random music kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4WQpoCposiUrck ) Nonetheless, I'm not a big fan of arrogant Diva's in entertainment or real life, and all I can say is these kind of singers are the opposite of Diva. They master an understated, sex appeal, they ooze more passion and cerebral energy without coming from the standard playbook of exploiting themselves sexually or physically. They kinda memorize like a Genie coming out of a bottle or a Mermaid. Only a few women can pull that off. (It actually makes them more sexy.....)

You would be HARD PRESSED to find a channel reacting to Goapele!! Thanks so much, guys ;) She came out of Oakland, CA where I lived for 15 years...I've seen her live too...Quiet storm is the perfect description for her. She's gorgeous and super talented as you can see. Totally one of those artists that a lot of artists know and respect but is slept on by casual R&B/neo-soul fans. The Bay area (SF/Oakland/Berkeley) has a lot of history and talent coming out of there. Now please listen to Amel Larrieux/Groove Theory...Tell Me if You Want Me To ;) This singer is similar in that they have very distinct vocal talent and groovy.

I had never heard of her when I saw she was coming to the Jazz Alley in Seattle. That's a cool venue to just chill, and I just bought a ticket to her show because she seemed like a cool Neo-Soul, singer, and just to hang out and have some drinks. But, her whole show simply blew me away, every song had such depth and passion. She had me melting sitting at the bar. Best "random" concert I ever been to in my life!!!! ....plus, she was "Easy on My Eyes" !!!! Hate to describe her in terms of other singers, but it was like Sade, mixed with Billy Holiday, mixed with Toni Braxton (without Toni's Diva mindset), mixed with Jill Scott. She oozed an understated subtle sex appeal, like a Genie coming out of a bottle or a Mermaid, or a Snake Charmer, yawl feel me?
@lazaz73044 жыл бұрын
This artist is new to me. I also don't like to compare to other artists but I also couldn't help thinking of Sade and Jill Scott while I was listening. She's really good and unique in her own right. Dreamy, floating vibe. I love that I just got exposed to her music. Now I need to check out more from her. 😎 Really nice. 🎶
@dxwallace554 жыл бұрын
@@lazaz7304 You actually nailed it as pertains to when I saw her live. The Jazz Alley in Seattle is such a great venue because it is so intimate and such a great sound system. She tore it up. I never been to a show where every song blew me away.. Nonetheless her performance was "Dreamy", yes, and I used the term hypnotic (as opposed to "floating"), understated, subtle sexuality (like a Sade).The theme behind this song testifies to what she is about,, in that, she's got dreams and is optimistic about her future, though it seems like some bad relationship got her here, like it seemed Sade used to have.....
