The symbolism kind of hits you over the head...at the end the paint leaves her body. They were both part of a painting, but she is literally NOT in the picture anymore. Moreover, she has moved on, and he hasn't. He is still stuck in this world they created together, alone.

Painting him with the same pattern that is on the wall I think was supposed to show how he's become part of the scenery to her. And initially she was also painted but then not. I think maybe that's him now wanting HER to be part of the scenery but he can't quite get to the point where she is because he misses her and won't admit it fully.

Hes a narcissist, & she lived thru his narcissistic abuse. In the end, she sings to him what he left out, how he made her feel. Thats why shes distant from him, somebody he used to know. She dont respond to him like she used to in their relationship, so yet again its her fault. Note how she tries to continue to get her point across to him, but he sings over her. She backs off, tries again, & he keeps shuttin her down. She finally gives up, moves away, & sheds the colors of their relationship. I know. This song eerily depicts step by step what happened in my last marriage. And now I live with the effects of emotional abuse, probably for years to come. This song is brilliant.

I was in a relationship with a narcisstic psychopath for over 5 years and this is exactly what happens. You HAVE TO CUT THEM OFF or it's almost like it's your life. It's always your fault, and they always try to have more than one "primary significant others". Narcissism can be deadly to the partner, she did the only thing she could do. But to be quite honest, if this is indeed narcissism and not just narcissistic tendencies, then it's a very mild version. I cannot stress enough that narcissism is NO JOKE.
