Sweet Sweet Connie had the whole show and Thats a natural fact… she was an Arkansan from Little Rock who died in the last year or so. She wasn’t ashamed of being a groupie and talked about it a lot. She will always be remembered because of this song. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻❤️

Righto .Julie .She was a groupie's groupie. You can see her if you pull up Connie Hamszy on Joan Rivers show from the nineties ..She was 36 and looked pretty good. Unfortunately. , the groupie lifestyle can take a real toll on you...When she was about 65 , she looked 86..It was sad but that's what she wanted to do with her life....No judgement but most would not want their daughters doing it. She was the Queen of the B.J. at Barton Coliseum ..Did the crews ,too...They were like family to her..

Natural fact. Haven't heard that one in years and made me think of my grandfather because he used to say it. He and his brothers survived WWI and then he lost both of them in the 1919 flu pandemic a year later. GFR is from my hometown of Flint. I was only 4 in 1974 but we came up listening to GFR from a very young age. They used to play in my aunt/uncle's nightclub/bar, during the early 1970s. Also, one of the GFR keyboardist, Craig Frost ended up going to Bob Seger and toureed with him for 40+ years. Great guy! Got the opportunity to meet him a couple of times through his daughter, who is a friend of mine.

Fantastic reaction Asia and BJ!! Few songs convey what it's like playing in a rock band in the 1970's. Saturday nights were special. Being the weekend, the crowds were the biggest Inside the club's would be roasting hot. So naturally the sweat and booze flowed. The front of the stage would always be packed and the party felt like it was only beginning. Which it was. Exceptional times indeed. I, for one, had a blast. RNB

This came out in 1973. I was 20 years old and in the Army stationed in Japan, just outside of Tokyo. This song was everywhere! When you bought the album there was a sticker in it of a hand pointing at you with "We're An American Band" printed around it. I must have seen thousands of those stickers. I remember a local Japanese band doing a cover of this on base, and they didn't really have a good grasp of English pronunciation. Lol. It was pretty funny.

Another cowbell song! Yeah, Grand Funk Railroad is just classic 70s hard rock. They are a three piece and they were all just so damn good. And there is plenty of live footage of them as well; they had incredible stage presence and they put out so much energy for a three-piece. The drummer sings as well. You will hear a lot of requests for other classic Grand Funk songs, but I implore you to please please please check out their cover of Do The Locomotion, which was an early 60s dance hit by the black performer Little Eva. I think it was the flip side of the single to this song that you reacted to. I had it in junior high and when you crank that to maximum volume, there is just something so dense and amazing about it. I honestly think it's one of their best recordings. Here it is: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKnchmeNbc6sm6s And the 1962 Little Eva version Oh, both of these are short, the Grand Funk cover is under 3 minutes and this original is about two and a half minutes: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3zTh4SjaZaZbrs

@@josephdurham6051 I actually have a theory on that ,Joseph. .We know that at one time.,Frampton was the biggest rock star on the planet...I really believe that its possible Connie really had feelings for him (,she was pretty hot and personable ) , and he blew her off..She was pissed ,never forgot it ,so when she wrote the book she exaggerated his diminutive member..She had journalistic license to do so - who's gonna check her on dong facts ? In other words, its highly unlikely Peter had a peter as small as she said .( about size of little finger )..A micro- penis like that is extremely rare...Even guys who look small in shower ,can generate a good deal of length simply by blood flow. .So its highly possible Frampton had average dong but she said otherwise ..Women like doing that to men if they get really mad. Back when there was the 55 mile speed limit nation wide... I had a 10 mile trip into town every day to go to work. I was in my Ford Maverick '3 on the tree' and about half way through the drive and was listening to American Band on the tape player I had installed into the car. I got a speeding ticket, because as I listened to the song, my foot got a bit heavy on the accelerator. A state trooper was coming the other direction, passed by me, made U-turn and pulled me over. I was doing 68. He asked me if I knew why I was pulled over. I said, 'Yes, I was speeding'. He told me that since I didn't try to jerk him around with the answer and was honest, that he was going to write me up for 6 miles over the limit rather than the 13 miles, as that would mean no points taken off my insurance and the fine would be about $30 rather than $100. :D

I saw GFR reunion tour in 1997, in Omaha, thought that the singer (drummer Don Brewer, in this case) would have made some kind of special thing about being in Omaha, but no....). My high school days were filled with learning / playing along with records of groups such as this (Mark Farner was one of my main influences).

Yes I believe they were making a statement about being a hard rocking American band. Don't forget during that era the USA was going through the British Invasion, with bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath The Rolling Stones, The Who, etc. So GFR was saying, hey we can wreck hotel rooms with the best of them! Lol!! RAWK ON🤘

The Beatles sold out Shea Stadium in six weeks for their 1970 show. Grand Funk Railroad sold it out in 72 hours! Peter Frampton and Humble Pie opened up for them. Over 55,000 people shook that stadium - home of the Mets! THE American band! Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induct them NOW! It's long overdue! And they're still doing it in 2023. That's why they are THE American band!
