This is a Band that was huge on the radio in the 1970’s. We blasted this song while “riding around up town” on the weekends. Good memories. Still think the ‘70’s were the greatest decade for all kinds of music. Maybe it was all the different sounds and styles that made it great! It was a great time to be a teenager.

I grew up with “Sweet Sweet Connie” in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She had the biggest collection of Beatles records of anyone I’ve known. She lived HER LIFE on HER TERMS. She had a good heart. You knew where you stood with Connie. Straight to the point. She didn’t shy away from the good, the bad or the ugly. Connie Hamsey passed away this year. Rest In Peace Connie. You are missed and you will never be forgotten. 🌹

@GBuds_RVremodel
@GBuds_RVremodel 9 ай бұрын
I knew Connie Hamzy from her very early days hanging out at Corn's Motel & Grill in Amboy. After she started to begin her groupie legend she would call me and I'd take her to Barton Coliseum to hang with the bands. Paul Revere & the Raiders, Rare Earth were her first crushes. She lived with her parents on West Drive & her bedroom walls were eventually covered with laminates and airplane ticket stubs to places she'd been. I was one of her earliest "test dummies" when she started developing her BJ skills. Her skills were legendary, so much that Merv Griffin would fly her to his TV show as a groupie expert. If you ever saw Cameron Crows movie "Famous" Connie was one of the girls he used to model the main groupie after...I remember times standing back stage with Connie watching so many great bands play...scenes in that movie still bring me right back. She eventually worked as a substitute teacher in Pulaski County. I was blessed to have known Connie & her buddy Jeannie Grey...she made her mark.

"Legend has it that while on tour with Humble Pie, the the two bands started arguing over British versus American rock. Grand Funk drummer Don Brewer allegedly rattled off a list of rock legends, punctuating it with, “We’re an American band.” The next morning he wrote the song of the same name, giving Grand Funk their first number one single." "How do guitar players move their fingers that fast?" Practice. And then more practice. And then a lot more practice. I was a guitar teacher for many years, and I love that J is going to be getting into playing. My one piece of advice is: Set aside time every day to practice. Even if it's only ten minutes. The key is to be consistent; you'll see your finger speed, strength and dexterity get better in real-time.

GFR did a concert at Shea Stadium (NY) in the 70’s and sold it out faster than the Beatles 65’ concert at Shea… This band is sooooo underrated and should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! (in my humble opinion)

This true, but the fact that they were sharing the billing with Humble Pie might also have helped. Mark Farner has written that when the band approached the stadium by helicopter, it was raining and Humble Pie were on stage. He could see Marriott out front and ,don't remember his exact quote, but basically, everyone was standing up and rocking SO HARD that he could literally see the stadium its self vibrating. In the early 70's, both these bands filled stadiums with 10's of thousands of fans. By the following year, the Pie were top billed every where they went. Young people today have mostly never heard of Humble Pie. Please do yourselves a favor and check them out. Sadly there is not much live video available here is one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5i6oqWGaJWMjrM I don't Need No Dr Live LA Forum 1973 Long live the Pie! RIP Steve Marriott & Greg Ridley

If you like singing drummers, you gotta listen to The Band. Watch The Night They Drive Old Dixie Down from The Last Waltz. No, Phil Collins is not the "prime example " of singing drummers. That distinction belongs to Levon Helm. 😁 Good actor too as Loretta Lynn's dad in Coal Miner's Daughter.

I got to see this band live way back in '82 when they opened for ZZ Top at the Roanoke Civic Center in Virginia. "Sweet Connie" who they mention early in the video, was a famous rock band groupie for years who, sadly, recently passed away. The name of the drummer is Don Brewer, who was not the lead singer, but did sing lead on some of their tracks. The actual lead singer is the Mark Farner, the guitarist. Speaking of famous groupies, check out KISS's song "Plaster Caster", a song about another groupie known as Cynthia Plaster Caster, who achieved notoriety for making plaster casts of big time rockers' manhoods.

A hugely unapologetic band. They were admitting that the coolest things about being in a hit band were the girls and the toys you could now afford. LOL. Talking about bringing girls into their hotel and how the hotel detectives were cool and not to be seen. When they mention sweet, Sweet Connie was doing her act. She had the whole show and that's a natural fact. They were referring to a girl named Connie who was a famous (or maybe infamous) music groupie back in the day. She uhh let's say ... made herself available to any and all bands and their entourages who would come through her area. Sadly Miss Connie passed away just about a month ago at 66. She wanted to be famous and she "met" a lot of musicians and bands. She was also mentioned in a couple of other bands songs. The great musical days of the 60s and 70s had quite a cast of characters. Not all of them on stage.
