Randy Bachman from the Guess Who teamed with Fred Turner, a Canadian rocker. BTO was a banger band in the 70's with big hits like this, Taking Care of Business and Let It Ride, the latter featuring Turner's powerful vocals. You should definitely check out more of their stuff.

Randy Bachman's bother had a stutter and Randy sang one of the studio takes of this song with a stutter just as a joke and to tease his brother. However, the producer liked it so much he convinced the band to actually use that take on the record.

@@T-ShirtMagic - Nope - that's a story made up by Randy. Norman Durkee was/is a well known studio session player and he was in the studio building. The engineer suggested they get him in to do a piano part. Durkee is none too pleased that Bachman continually lies about this.

@ToddSauve 2 жыл бұрын
Bachman-Turner Overdrive was made up of Randy Bachman on lead and rhythm guitar and vocals, his younger brother Rob Bachman on drums, Fred Turner on bass and vocals, and Blair Thornton on lead and rhythm guitar and vocals. To say they were huge in the 1970s is, well, a colossal understatement! I learned from an interview with Randy Bachman years and years ago that he wanted BTO to be a rhythm based rock band. But I didn't know until very recently that they were sharing a dressing room with the Doobie Brothers in New Orleans during Mardi Gras when he worked out some of "Let It Ride" and the Doobies based "Long Train Running" on his guitar noodlings as he ironed it out. That is astonishing and good to know. Randy said in that interview eons ago, back in the 1970s IIRC, that he wanted a band that was rhythmically similar to CCR and the Doobies. Killer rhythm was _the_ thing back in the 1970s and is much too absent from today's music. And BTO has so many excellent lead guitar solos! It is funny how I can remember those things from an interview almost 50 years ago, and I can't remember what time I got up this morning! Ah, the pleasures of life in your 60s! Ha, ha! 😂🤷‍♂️😉🎸

This group was briefly known as Bachman Turner Bachman before renaming themselves Bachman-Turner Overdrive. They were coming on at full throttle with hits like LET IT RIDE, GIMME YOUR MONEY PLEASE, TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS, and my personal favorite, ROLL ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I love the two guitar solos that burn with real heat. They rumble down the highway already scorched by the Doors ROADHOUSE BLUES.

"Good morning, Mr Overdrive, how are you?" Back in the mid 70s my dad bought a second hand car, a Vauxhall Ventora. The model's nickname was 'the lazy fireball'. He bought it because it was cheap. It was cheap because it had an absurdly large engine, two litres, I think, and drank petrol like nobody's business. But if you managed to get to a cruising speed of 70 or so on South East England's crowded roads, you could push a button on the steering column that put it into a kind of fuel-saving fifth gear. The button was called 'overdrive'. I suspect I've heard this song many more times this year alone than my dad ever needed overdrive on the fireball.
