From an English point of view, hip hop smashed the mediocrity mainstream music we were listening to, giving us a glimpse of American Street life. It was a real eye-opener. In the areas I was brought up in may have had a pub (bar) on most streets. Gunshops? I've never seen one. I have, however, seen generation after generation of amazing talent taken too soon.
