The song is basically saying a wife should always look good for her husband. In other words, the same thing it took to get him is going to be the same thing it takes to keep him. Note…that goes for husbands too.

If you’re familiar with The Love Boat comedy/drama of the 1970’s-80’s, that’s Jack Jones singing the theme song.

Smooth. Timeless. A man, who has a beautiful lover, will do just about anything for her. The best possible scenario is for his precious lover to be his wife! Neither should forget the many things that went into the beginnings of the relationship. Physical attraction has its place. Men are very visual creatures.

Hey, Just: Super great reaction by you and there just is no arguing; this is a superb song by Jack Jones. He had a few other nice ones too, Lollipops and Roses in particular. It's nice to see you reacting to a big variety because I know I will soon see one that interests me. Keep up the good reacting.

I like just about anything Burt Bacharach writes. Jack Jones use to be very popular.

Burt Bacharach wrote the music---this is one of his classic melodies. His songwriting partner, Hal David wrote the lyrics. And it's exactly what you think it is---"Pretty yourself up first thing in the morning or your husband will leave you for his secretary." It's just horrific. Was even then, for women who had any sense of self-worth.

WOW ! what a great reaction choice MM.I love this song, especially what I like to call those weeping violins. Not very politically correct in this day and age but back then acceptable & JJ got that right it is a beautiful song for it's arrangement & production👍👍✌️

I have defended the lyrics of this song on KZbin before. It was true then, it is true now (although no one can dare say it now). If a wife let's herself go physically her husband is likely to lose interest in her, especially if he sees pretty women at work all day. Maybe that's a terrible thing about men or maybe it is wired into us. I'm sure there are exceptions as well, some men could care less. Overall though the song explores a forbidden truth, although it probably wasn't controversial when it was released in the early 60s. Besides the lyrics, I like the jazzy swing beat of the song.
