That's his dad, he was dying from kidney disease. After the video was released, a kidney donor was found and his dad survived.

He wrote this song when his dad was dying from kidney disease, then a long lost cousin showed up and was a match for donating a kidney! So his dad is alive ❤

Hi Nice reaction. There is an article of his dad being very ill with kidney failure but was lucky to get a donar kidney. I hope everyone listens to the words. As you said forgive the arguments etc you are there to hold his hand.

I don't doubt anyone who has lost or is on the brink of losing a parent they love can listen or watch this video without tears.

Loved your reaction. Honestly, I’m crying. This song reminds me of when my mom was dying. Punches me in the heart.

James Blunt was in the British Army n he left to pursue his passion which was music , or atleast that is what im led to believe , he has sung many tear jerkers over the years but monster killed me 😢

I listen to this song and it hits me from the other direction. My father died in 2004 but we did not have a good relationship. This song hits me in the fact that I hope I have been a good enough father to my son that he will feel this way when it is my time.

My dad is now in his 70s, and I'm increasingly honest with myself that he will not be with me forever. This song hits hard every time I hear it, and I am confident that when he is gone, I won't be able to listen to this song again.

Now you need to react to James Blunts video The Girl Who Never Was.

If this song doesn't make you cry, you don't have a heart.

You need to review No Bravery by James Blunt. He was a serving soldier in the Balkans war in the 90s. Another extremely emotional song and video, but in a very different way!

His father was dying from kidney failure and was at 11% function with no available donors. Blunt wrote the song to say his goodbye to his dad, played it privately for his dad, then asked his dad if he would sit in on the one take video. The video was released, blew up the charts, was heard by a distant cousin who was moved to get tested and was found to be the only compatible donor, which ultimately saved Blunt's father's life.

What a pathetic and fake reaction. 06:31 even the overlaid lyrics are wrong! "You can feel my hand on your own" is nonsense and does not even make any sense! The correct lyrics are "You can feel my hand on your arm"!

I have seen so many reactions to this that include the lyrics, and yes, that line jars on me every time. Besides which, James enunciates so clearly that they aren't necessary. Still, I suppose they could be worse - I've seen some truly horrible, unintelligible lyrics to things that have totally destroyed a song so I guess one word isn't too much of a loss!
