He went back to Kosovo many years later to see how things were going and to try to find the translators & a couple families he spent time with while there. He said he wrote this song in 10 minutes outside of his tank to try to process the horrific things he was seeing & experiencing. "He has been here" was what everyone said about the enemy having come through. Thank you for your reaction.💛

This one is tough, especially now, but also very important. This song was released 2 years after he retired and he is a big patreon of "Help for heroes" who deals with ptsd etc. He wrote this in the barracks in Kosovo and sang for his fellow soldiers before he was known and released his first album "Back to Bedlam" (great album!) He went on tour to promote the album and raised tens of thousands of dollars with the proceeds for "doctors without borders". I liked your "I'm on the side with innocent people", and I totally agree. It's a shame that civilians on "both sides" are being discriminated and harassed, even in countries far away from any war. What the f!@# is going on when people can't differenciate between the leadership and it's people?! You can't judge a whole people based by the actions of a few! It has always frustrated the heck out of me! Thanks for the reaction, still a couple tough ones to go, but I promise, I will sprinkle in some happy ones too ❤

You can tell it means a lot to him. James conveys emotions so well. As long as there are people there will be war unfortunately. As you say songs like this shouldn't exist..but they have to. It's the same as songs to do with School Shootings, I can name about five from the top of my head. But since the 70s there are over 50 songs on the topic, some very big hits. Still nothing changes!

Xxx

Im 46 this year & I listen to this song & think of the news reports of other wars & 'conflicts' ive seen over the years. I see the he in the song as being War or Death, im never sure which (maybe both). Just gathering up those affected. That they pass over some & not others always has me shaking my head. The discordant notes just adds to the complexity of the song.
