I saw him live in Dublin in 1970s. When he walked out on stage, he was so unassuming that we all thought he was the sound man, setting up the stool and the mic! Typically Irish, we were chatting away, and he just sat there, smiling, until our brains kicked in, -- then we started cheering and clapping like lunatics, and he could hardly stop laughing. Absolutely no ego or arrogance, Just a classic wordsmith and musician ready to share when we were. Finally, he said "Hi everyone, I'm James Taylor, and I'd like to sing some songs for you all"!!! An incredible evening with a true legend. I'll never forget it.

Carolina on my Mind, Shower the People, Fire and Rain. These are other great JT songs. They played this particular song at my son's funeral because he was always there for his friends if they needed him, be it giving them a place to sleep, food, a ride, if they just needed to talk or even bailing one or 2 out of jail in their younger, wilder days! Some of his friends suggested this song for his funeral service as their way of honoring his friendship to them, and 2 of his best buds were pall bearers. But this song doesn't make me sad, just fills me with warm memories of Daniel's genuine love and concern for his friends and how he always wanted to help them any way he could.
