Generally speaking, to me, this song is about how it's easier for us to hate somebody that we love rather than just accept breaking up with them while still loving them. It's easier to get over someone who hurt you by being "the villain", somebody who did the unforgivable because it causes you to slowly replace the love by hatred. But when you break up with someone without any of this additional drama, just because it's better and it has to end, that's when it hurts the most. Because letting go of your love and your feelings without triggering this process is way harder. You just miss them and you find no real reason to stop loving them. "Hating you is the only way it doesn't hurt." In this song, it's like he wishes that the relationship had ended on bad terms, that this person turned out to be the "villain", the unforgivable. Just so he can hate them and go over it. "It's not the truth, it's not the cure..." because the cure resides in processing true emotions and not made up ones. "... but hating you is the only was it doesn't hurt" but it hurts way more when you just have to let go.

There are so many delusional fans, my God do you REALLY think that fans knows his personal life or his inner self beyond what he is himself sharing ? Even the things he is sharing is NOT his alone because he is under contract and a public person that has to watch what he shares in case anyone gets offended or angry. In my interpretation of the lyrics, he’s admitting HE somehow focused on whatever was missing from a “close to perfect” relationship and made it seem much larger/worse than it really was, straining the relationship to a breaking point (Microscopes magnify almost invisible objects multiple times). Now it’s over, and he regrets his actions but finds it easier to deal with anger (even if it’s made up & unfair) than with the pain of the break up. Loved the reaction. His vocals are impeccable.

I think you’re right, and when he says “I'm still in love, for what it's worth” he now accepts that we are not perfect but I’m still in love with just what we have, we don’t have to be perfect but it hurts rn bc it already ended

This song was written by Shawn Mendes and Scott Harris. I think this is about Shawn's relationship with Camilla Cabello which didn't end well and with rumors. None of the songs on this album are related directly to Jungkook however, he chose each of the songs himself. He recorded ALL the songs within 3-4 days. Shawn Mendes met him at an award show and said he'd like to work with BTS. He got his chance by working with the lead singer, Jungkook. The whole album is in ENGLISH. How many of us English Speakers could sing and perform an ENTIRE album in another language we can't fluently speak? IMPRESSIVE

I think this song is about someone who was dumped by someone he really loves and cares for. She is asking to let go, and he’s not ready so that’s why he’s saying he will paint her as a villain to make things easier for him. He doesn’t see anything wrong with her or the relationship until he looked at everything closely (under a microscope), but even then I don’t think it was his decision to break up.

i think what it’s meant in “until i put all our under the microscope” is making a bigger problem from something is not really big and insignificant by overanalyzing and overthinking. since it’s a toxic trait, it is what ruined their relationship

He used the girl in the visualizer as a metaphor for ARMY. While none if the songs were written by him, he chose ones he liked snd ones he wanted for ARMY. The girl in the visualizer has purple hair - purple is the colour of ARMY and he did this video because he was preparing to leave for the SK military for his mandatory Enlistment. You totally missed the transition from black and white to color. You might've gotten pulled into the lyrics and possibly had a personal flashback of your own experiences. 😅 Also this song has a double meaning in it. One was to the girl that hurt him, and the second one was to his fans, his Army, because today, 12th of December, he gets enlisted into the military. I think the word "Hate" written on his arm was directed to the girl that's no longer with him, and the word "Love" was directed to his Army fans. IMO, he had to quickly make this video and released it 3 days before he goes away into the military for 18 months. It's his way to communicate to his fans. At the Time Square mini concert, he said to his fans, "Army, please don't change", then proceeded to sing the song called, "Please Don't Change". Meaning for this moment as he gets enlisted. Don't change and wait for him...
