Saw him at Farm Aid 2 back in the day. It was July 4, and it took place in Manor, TX, at a HUGE field outside of Austin. There was absolutely no shade, and as the day went on, it got hotter and hotter and hotter. I pulled up the lineup from Wikipedia, and it was amazing - Mellencamp, Willie, Dylan, Stevie Ray Vaughn, George Jones, The Beach Boys and many more…

John Mellencamp is a massive talent. He co-founded Farm Aid (with Willie Nelson and Neil Young), a multi-act concert to raise money to help family farmers to meet their bills and keep their family farms. Like my beloved Dolly Parton, John Mellencamp is the real deal who hasn’t forsaken his roots and feels a responsibility to use the platform afforded him by his music to help others. He has done lots of great songs; I’d check him out on KZbin.

In his very early days, the record company made him change his name to John Cougar. Once he could, he changed it back to his real name. Listen to anything from the Whenever We Want It or the Scarecrow album; amazing! He is one of the G.O.A.T.’s !! Saw him live 3 days after 9/11/01 - best concert ever! If ever there was a time we needed him and his music, it was that night! I’ve never felt so connected to so many people I didn’t know. That night, we were all friends and all in it together. John Mellancamp had so many hits back in the day. This guy has about 15-20 really good songs from the 80s and 90s

He's from Bloomington/Seymour. When I was in college in the 80s, at the height of his fame, you'd see him walking around Bloomington on a regular basis. He has a song called Pink Houses and the pink house that inspired it was on 69 between Bloomington and Indy. Many of his songs mention Indiana. He and MJ are two of the most famous musicians to come out of Indiana. Of course, MJ was in another class, but Mellencamp is nothing to sneeze at. He is still enjoying a multi-decade career. He has albums under the names Johnny Cougar, John Cougar Mellencamp and John Mellencamp.
