You have heard Stevie's voice before, for sure, because she's with Fleetwood Mac, and you listened to their song "The Chain" just the other day. Personally, I think she has the most unique voice in rock. So raspy and gorgeous. I think you would enjoy hearing her duet with Tom Petty called "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around." He's another music legend with an unmistakable voice.

Not just Mick Fleetwood, the Mac part of the name is for John McVie. But the band only had limited success until Nicks/Buckingham joined. Six of the seven studio albums released featuring Nicks/Buckingham reached the US Billboard Top Ten. Three of those reached number one. The one to not reach the top ten, peaked at number eighteen.

She was in “Fleetwood Mac “ - you just listened to them. Lots of drama in that band . Love affairs, break ups. They are all creative people and channeled their feelings of passion into music.... imagine your husbands mistress is in your band and you are singing a song about how she feels about it. . You should listen to “ landslide” by Stevie. One of my all time favorite songs.

Stevie started playing guitar around 12, writing and singing her own songs at 14. I started playing at age 10, and "Landslide" was the first song I taught myself to sing and play together when I was 12. She's one of the women, like Melanie, Joan Baez and Heart that were my first heros, showing me that women could write, play and sing serious folk and R&R music, while being respected by all.

In the summer my wife and I go out to a friend's house on some weekends to sit in the backyard and just listen to the music we grew up on, from 1960's to 1980's. We're all in our 50's and we've been friends since we were little kids. We reminisce and talk about the music, and the memories it inspires, around a fire once it gets dark. We go into the wee hours just enjoying this.

The meaning is for John Lennon’s sudden death and the death of her uncle in a 2 month period of time. Nicks spoke about the "white-winged dove" and what this song means to her: "It became a song about violent death, which was very scary to me because at that point no one in my family had died. To me, the white-winged dove was for John Lennon the dove of peace, and for my uncle it was the white-winged dove who lives in the saguaro cactus - that's how I found out about the white-winged dove, and it does make a sound like whooo, whooo, whooo. I read that somewhere in Phoenix and thought I would use that in this song. The dove became exciting and sad and tragic and incredibly dramatic. Every time I sing this song I have that ability to go back to that two-month period where it all came down. I've never changed it, and I can't imagine ending my show with any other song. It's such a strong, private moment that I share in this song."

Silver Springs was the "B" side of Go your own way. It was to long for an LP in 1978, 79. No CD's. So the record companies would use 33's to sell. I think they influenced the "Top40" or as promo's to D.J.s at radio stations.

Just adding to the story of “Stand Back”: Stevie called Prince ON HER WEDDING NIGHT and asked him to meet her at the studio to record the synth track on the song; Prince was there for less than 30 min, and did not want to be credited for his contribution, but he did agree to a 50/50 split of the royalties from the song.

Stevie Nicks said in an interview that she was talking to Tom Petty’s wife who was from Gainesville FL and had a very southern accent. She told Stevie that she met Tom at the “age” of seventeen. Stevie misunderstood and thought she said the “edge” of seventeen, thus the title.

@may nobles She wrote this about the death of her uncle and the death of John Lennon. If you search the internet, it’s referenced in a number of areas including the original interview. When she says “there was no one left standing in the hall” it is because she and her brother were the only ones in the room when her uncle died and she thought the family should know and she ran out to the hall to get them and they were all gone and she was overwhelmed with emotion and loss.

My comment was about the title of the song, the Edge of Seventeen, not the meaning of the song. Stevie Nicks shared that in an interview. How she came up with the title of the song is different than the meaning of the song.
@silassongs779
@silassongs779 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, a tiny mishearing, where Tom's wife said "age of", and Stevie thought she heard "edge of", and this simple "mistake" inspired one of the most popular Rock songs of all time from Stevie's first solo album without Fleetwood Mac. Her alliteration is phenomenal, especially in this song. Making several words in a single sentence manage not just to rhyme, but to gracefully *flow* with the melody places her musical "poetry", IMO, up very near that of the great American poet, Edgar Allan Poe (but without the overwhelming sadness).

@User name 1234 that’s not quite what this song is about actually. This song is about Stevie‘s best friend who is her back up singer name Sara. At the time Stevie was sleeping with Mick Fleetwood and so was Sara but Stevie didn’t know. When she found out that Mick Fleetwood and Sara were in love she wrote this song to them as a almost like letter of forgiveness and acceptance of their love. Mick and Sarah were building a house together which is why she sings that one line that says when you build your house call me home.

Fun fact: this song is about “the two Johns” this song was shortly written after her uncle died from cancer and former beatle John Lennon gunned down within a span of a week. “And the days go by like a strand in the wind” was how fast the days were going with here uncles illness and “I went today…. Maybe I’ll go again… tomorrow” was referring to seeing her uncle the day before he died. Then she claimed “to me the white-winged dove was for John Lennon the dove of peace. And for my uncle, it was the white winged dove who lives in saguaro cactus- that’s how I found out about the white winged dove, and it makes the sound whoo whoo whoo”

It’s a great tune. But it always makes me think of a live version done by Will Ferrell and Dave Grohl that totally cracks me up. 🤣

She was criticized often because she has a limited range, but gee, she isn’t an opera singer! She used her vocals artistically, made the most of what she was blessed with, and loved performing

Heidi Robinson she’s unique and does more than sing. People can F off if they are so limited in their appreciation of the music world.

Limited range? Not at all. Her range is fine. She’s not a Soprano, who cares about that. She transmits a whole lot more through her voice than singers with twice her range do. And in the end, that’s all that matters when it comes to singing
