Vocally, Halford is amazing... which is staggering considering he's long past his prime and the ravages of age (he's 71, now) and life have taken their toll on his voice. He's learned to tweak and alter his performances to favor his strengths and avoid the weaknesses that time has inflicted. He's a top tier vocalist through and through.

I saw priest live for the first time last year and it was an amazing show, even at 71 Rob still did a full show with no breaks and delivered an amazing performance.

And thats the point, he's over 70 years old and you hear it, Rob was a great Singer, but he reached the point to Stop.

Rob Halford is an incredible vocalist, at the time of this performance he was 63 and still hitting high notes. Definitely worth checking out more of their stuff, maybe studio versions or older performances back when Halford was in his prime. My favourite is Dreamer Deceiver and Deceiver, they go together to make a perfect power ballad that showcases Halfords lows as well as his high vocals

Definitely love that one, first Judas priest song I heard that wasn't the mainstream stuff, breaking the law etc. Great song and shows Rob's true abilities

their fastest and most aggressive song...so not really a signature song but most requested possibly. Don't knew about this version, never heard him growl...Thanx for this one.

"Painkiller" (the song and the album from 1990) is considered the peak of Judas Priest's metal intensity... They had gone through a trial in court for allegedly inspiring a grisly double-suicide by 2 of their fans and it was an awful experience (They were acquitted. The allegation was that they added a 'subliminal message' to a 1978 song, and that was finally debunked) ... So, they poured their anger and frustration into that record. Judas Priest was the first band in the 70's to embrace the term 'heavy metal' to their music (Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin did not like the tag) and it was the high range vocals of singer Rob Halford, the twin guitars of Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing that set the standard for British heavy metal in the 80's and beyond... Priest also perfected the image of a band wearing leather and studs onstage, which was the 'look' of heavy metal bands adopted in the 80's til today. However, the image came from the gay culture - Rob Halford was gay and wanted to express himself in 1978, so he visited an S&M shop in London and bought a black leather outfit w/ metal studs and a bullwhip. It looked striking, and the other members of Priest followed his image and it defined the heavy metal genre for decades. Rob Halford also set the standard for heavy metal vocals w/ his piercing screams... it was a trademark of Priest's sound, but Halford could also sing the low vocals impeccably as well.

Big fan of "Night Crawler" from Judas Priest. It's from the same album but explores the exact opposite concept that Painkiller explores.

Man, if I sounded like he does, I would have just dropped that falsetto to my natural... Rob sounds like he's struggling. It wouldn't have sounded the same.. the entire song might have to be dropped in a lower octave. But, he's going in and out of lows and highs and it's too distracting. The original recording is insanely powerful.

that was in 2016 or 2018, watch the version from the last tour (from last year) its fucking incredible, he somehow does it better than he did 5years ago. I was at 1 of their shows and was blown away (it was like he came back to his prime lol)

They have so many songs that are better than this assault on the eardrums.

What a waste! This isn't even the singer. Why didn't you do the original video? Or at least a clip with Rob Halford? I stopped watching about 30 seconds in.

yeah this version is not the best neither vocaly (Rob somehow does it much better now than he did on this version) and even instrumentaly since Glenn was suffering with Parkinson's and it sadly shows.

But you know that this is Rob Halford? However he had some serious problems with high register during this show.
