You have to understand French to grasp how amazing this croud was in Paris (2001). Not only did they sing perfectly in tune, every word sung was just right, except for one single word at the very beginning of the chorus where the croud replaced "Je t'aime" (I love you) by "On t'aime" (We love you), as a testimony to how much they love Lara. This performance is unique in the history of live concerts. It was not staged, as too many performances today, and totally unexpected, which explains the deep emotions of Lara throughout. Yet, Lara did manage perfectly the energy of the croud, letting them sing most of the song, and only melding in some parts most appropriately, never trying to put her singer ego forward. This is perfection, and will remain one of the best live performances ever.

At that time, Lara was going through her most difficult times which led her to almost quit singing forever! We fans didn't want that. We organized to contact the pianist to surprise Lara. He agreed to change the introduction of the song by stopping playing in order to destabilize Lara and thus give the crowd the starting tempo. It wasn't improvised at all

The true meaning of the song is not about love, but about trying to say "I'm sorry" to your lover. The message of the song is about the loss of those feelings that filled life with bright light and great regret about this. With this song Lara tried to say her last words before saying goodbye.

They did that to tell her how special she’s to them and to tell her “we’re here! you’re not alone.” I wish you reacted to the subtitled version. You would understand more. The "Love" of her devoted fans(7000+ at this venue) would be on display in this performance. Fans contacted Lara's pianist and arranged a surprise for Lara by singing Lara's signature song to her! I've gleaned from many commenters and from dozens of other reactors that she was having professional, personal, health issues, suicidal thoughts and to top it off the French media was being tough on her. All of this is true at some point in her career but not all at this particular time. My observation: when she did her From Lara with Love concert in 1999 she looked a little fuller physically than she did in this 2001 concert; read that she had an eating disorder for nearly (I think 7 years). Bottom-line this performance did give her a boost and that life was indeed worth living! BTW, when Lara sings 'Je T'aime (I Love You)' her fans would respond with 'On T'aime (We Love You)'. Her first words when she starts to sing is "You caught me off guard"!

i only know the backstory due to other videos from this performance. Lara was so down and sad with what happend in her life, that she didnt see much hope for her future. (someone even mentioned that she was suicidal) this was a surprise from the fans for Lara because they wanted to cheer her up. They definitely succeded for sure. Yes, Lara is Dimash's muse since he was a child. Over the years they have collaborated at 2 concerts and Dimash has performed two of Lara's song where she wrote the lyrics: Adagio and Mademoiselle Hyde.

A piece of information, Lara was engaged to the composer of the music from Titanic , from what I understand she found out that he had cheated on her, they had composed the music together for broken vow, but she was able to quickly put her emotional words to the songs. Since she broke off the relationship, her American career was tremendously affected, she would heave been the one singing the theme from Titanic, but Walter had cheated. Ironically Dimash is currently working with Walter and possibly David Foster in Los Angeles. I would suggest Ti Amo Cosi, Lara, Aida Garifullina and Dimash, a celebration of Igor’s 65 birthday, beautiful performance.

But I also want to mention another beautiful song on that evening, wher we all continue " The Choir " , its " PAS SANS TOI ", which is not a viral video like the other, but which made us cry and we had trouble " drying our tears..." I remember this concert very well. The pianist and former boyfriend explained the situation of breaking up and ask us to sing for her, not je t’aime (i love you) but on l’aime (we love you) to her. I think the breaking u was the course why she performed so extremely good that night.
