One of her early stage work was in a local production of The Sound of Music where she played one of the von Trapp children. Lea Salonga was trained by really strict and the best theatre veterans (Zenaida Amador et al) as a child. They, along with her mother, instilled the discipline in the young Lea Salonga to keep improving her craft. She sings like she is always telling a story, like she is talking to you through a song. I often get teary eyed watching her vids. We were lucky to have witnessed a dress rehearsal for Ms Saigon once in Manila and she was there, just so perfect. You can check her version of Alone which she belted out perfectly, sitting, having fun at a party with friends and family. Thank you for this.

For Lea, acting out a song is extremely important. That's how she puts heart in the performance and it's like second nature to her. I've never heard her just sing a song, she takes on a character suited for the pov of the song and acts it out. When she was asked which is more important, good techniques or heart, she chose heart, but obviously she's impeccable at both.

I really enjoy your reactions to Lea's performances. Note: her name is pronounced LAY-ah (not lee-ah). Her name sounds like Princess Leia from Star Wars. This performance was in 2011 when Lea and several other Disney princesses were named Disney legends. She was 40 years old here. The original Disney Mulan came out in 1998, but I believe she started recording for the film as far back as 1995. When Lea sings "Reflection" in concert, she always sings the original "full" version of the song. In the film, it's shorter - I think a verse and chorus were cut. FYI: It is true - Lea sounds amazing live. I only got to see her in concert for the first time earlier this year, but she blew me away. PLEASE react to more Lea!!! Referring to the Musical 'Miss Saigon' reaction video you did 2 months ago. I have a request if you can do it. I watched this musical 11 times and because of this Musical, I fall in love with the Musical field and decided to have my professional training in Musicals. I am sure you will be very emotional at the end of the show because you watch her and the American Gi used to fall in love and until the end everything changes, She has no choice but to make a huge decision to have a chance for her son at the end. It would be best if you watched the whole show. The first time I had that DVD which back then had no copy to buy around the world even you had money but it was because my vocal coach studied with Lea in the same school and my vocal teacher also performed Miss Saigon in Manila as well and I beg her to give me a copy of it. But now you can watch it on KZbin and I still wonder how that DVD will appear on KZbin. I know it is a long video but if you have time watch it with us and do a reaction video on this. I believe a lot of us will be appreciated because no one on the internet ever did a reaction video for the whole show. Just discovered that your recently discovered Lea (pronounced Laya) and I haven't heard you mention the fact that she is a Disney Legend for her Aladin and Mulan performances. She didn't get the Pocahontas gig, but does a magnificent job showing she was the right for the role. She has earned a Tony award for her portrayal of "Kim" in Miss Saigon. Sadly, I believe she has suffered from breast cancer in recent years as her beautiful long hair has been replaced by a shorter pixie cut.
