On the band's name, before LZ was formed, Jimmy wanted to form a super group with Jeff Beck and the rhythm section from "The Who"! The idea was laughed at and one of them said the new band would go down like a lead balloon, the other one said Zeppelin (the largest type of balloon known at the time, we call them Blimps in the US) ... The name came from the German family that invented the airship "Von Zeppelin"? When Jimmy had the eventual members lined up for the new band, they had contractual obligations left to fulfill from his previous band, "The Yardbirds", so they travelled to Scandanavia together calling themselves "The New Yardbirds". When a former member of the Yardbirds threatened legal action, Jimmy, remembering the incident with Keith Moon and John Entwistle, proposed LZ to his new mates, and it was agreed. They changed the spelling of Lead to Led, so people wouldn't mispronounce the first word, and LZ was born! Now I could be off on a detail here or there, but this is the general consensus of how it all came about!

A "Zepplin" is like a blimp, in that they both are lighter-than-air flying vehicles filled with gas, but a blimp is just a huge bag of gas with the compartment for passengers suspended from the outside. A Zeppelin is a "dirigible" rather than a blimp. It is constructed of a rigid frame, and keeps its shape even when there's no gas inside; a blimp will deflate if the gas is removed - it doesn't have a ridige support structure. The passenger compartments in a Zeppelin are contained inside the rigid structure, and the gas is contained in large cells located inside the structure as well. The crazy thing about Zeppelins is that the gas used in them was hydrogen, which is extremely flammable. Any light-than-air vehicles today (like the Goodyear Blimp) are filled with non-flammable helium. I think there was a huge political fight about this back in the 1920-1930s. The only source for lots of Helium at the time was the US, and the US refused to sell it to Germany, because the US didn't want Germany to use the Zeppelins for making war.

You are seeing them live in Denmark on tv 1969. They formed in late 68'. Guitarist 🎸 Jimmy Page uses a violin or cello bow on the Fender Telecaster here. My friend . You will never see another band this good. These guys scared themselves first time they ever played. They stopped after about 25 seconds and looked at each other..not believing how well they played together Greatest Drummer in Rock and Roll history John Henry Bonham . Greatest front man Robert Plant. Such a unique sounding voice. Great Blues singer. .John Paul Jones on Bass / Keyboards was a session player like founder Jimmy Page .....two trained pros. . JPJ is able to MASTERFULLY play Bass Acoustic Guitars Keyboards Organ. Anything Jimmy Page the lead guitarist created this band .....hes a mad scientist One of the very top guitarists in Rock history Hes a quiet kind shy type but was destined to create these masterpieces. The first time I remember hearing Led Zeppelin was when I was 11, listening to the radio, and I heard Black Dog off LZ IV. Changed my life forever. Jimmy Page is the reason that I started playing guitar in my 20's and still am 40 years later because of him. Zeppelin is the greatest musical force in my life, and always will be. Greatest group of musicians, to the man, greatest live band, greatest band, and Jimmy Page is the greatest guitarist, greatest musical composer, and greatest producer in the history of rock music.

I was 8 years old when they started but my brothers were 18 and 20. I heard them from the beginning. First track, First album, Good Times Bad Times. Recorded in 1968. Released in the U.S. Jan 1969. The best way to listen and react to LZ is to start with the first album, Led Zeppelin 1, track 1, and go in order. The albums were meant to be heard as a whole, not individual songs. They very rarely allowed a single to be released. There are 8 studio albums plus CODA, released after the drummers death, John Bonham RIP. Hear the studio version first so that you get the song, then listen to it live - they never played a single song the same way twice in concert. The Greatest Band Ever. 🔥🔥❤❤

Welcome to the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole! Great reaction! Subscribed 😁They are the best band ever - on a whole different plane. There is really no other band like them. 4 master musicians who explored so many genres and incorporated them into their music. This gig was very, very early in their history in 1969. They'd only been together for a few months. LZ started in late 1968 and continued into 1980, when tragically their drummer, John Bonham, died and they disbanded. Their guitarist, Jimmy Page, was also the producer of all their albums. Robert Plant is the frontman and John Paul Jones is the bassist/keyboardist primarily. I first heard Led Zeppelin in late 1968 on an underground radio station that was playing an advanced release of their first album. I'd like to suggest 2 things to you -Dazed and Confused - live film from 1970 London - this is one of the numbers where Jimmy uses the violin bow in one section of the song, - it's an experience - kzbin.info/www/bejne/earXe6mOl6ufgbc and In My Time of Dying - from their 1975 amazing album Physical Graffiti - and the groove is spectacular - an example of how they evolved their music from 1969 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZTTopSbaLVqesk Hope you'll check them out. Thanks again for the great reaction.

Jimmy was thinking about the name "Lead Balloon". During a jam session with some of rocks best in the late 60s, including Keith Moon. Jimmy wanted to start a band with one of the stars and their manager said "Like hell, That'll go over about as good as a Lead Zeppeilin". I have heard a few differing versions of the same story, including one where Keith Moon came up with the name. Let's just say it came out of a partying jam session in England one day.

On the band name - The story goes when Jimmy Page was looking to put a group together he was talking to Keith Moon and John Entwistle (from “The Who”) about stealing them away for his new group. They thought it would go “over like a led balloon” and then somebody joked it would be such a disaster it would be more like a Led Zeppelin.

Hey Duane, nice to meet ya’ buddy👋Well man it’s kinda hard for me to say seein’s how I was about 4 years old when they first hit the scene back in ‘68 right about the same time that video you just watched was made!😁So I can only guess as to when my tiny little virgin ears first got turned on to Zeppelin😆All I know is that I’ll “forever” be thankful for that moment because I’ve been treating my ears to em’ ever since They were my heroes when I was a teenager learning to play guitar 🎸 Unfortunately that was also about the time that their drummer John Henry Bohnam died and the rest of the guys said well that’s the end of Zeppelin with the exception of some of them getting together every now and then to do a little something. Nobody could ever blame them for calling it quits at the time they did because in ten years time they about 12 years time they went from being panned by Rolling Stone as being “bastardized blues” to being the biggest rock band on the planet 🌎 and a major part of that was because of the sound that they had with that one man only. There’s never been another one sound quite like him😇

You should really familiarize yourself with Led Zeppelin's studio recordings (which are some of the greatest achievements in audio recording history) before delving into their live stuff, which was very improvisational and may not give you a true understanding of the song itself. I Recommend revisiting the song "Stairway to Heaven", but this time, react to the original studio recording off of the album Led Zeppelin IV. Then I would react to the studio recording of the song "Since I've Been Loving You" off of the album Led Zeppelin III. Cool reaction. I rarely watch Led Zeppelin live reactions, but you did a nice job on this one. I subscribed. Peace

So the whole thing about a lead balloon or Zeppelin came from a comment that took place when Jimmy Page decided that he would fulfill a contract of a band he was in (The Yardbirds) after most of the members went their separate ways. He got his friend John Paul Jones to join, but the vocalist he wanted turned him down, however he suggested Robert Plant. Plant agreed as long as he could bring along his drummer (John Bonham). After they completed the tour as The New Yardbirds they wanted to find a new record label. So they remembered the joke about the lead Zeppelin, changed their name, signed with Atlantic and the rest is history.

The first Led Zeppelin song I ever heard was a song called "Immigrant Song." But when I first heard it, I had no idea of either the name of the song nor the identity of the band: I was eating lunch in my high school cafeteria in the early 1970s when the song was played over the cafeteria's audio system (yuck.) I was totally smitten with that song, and searched for years to try find out the name of the band and of the song. I didn't succeed until 1977, after which I bought every Led Zeppelin album I could get my hands on. I don't like every one of their songs as much as I do either this one, or "Immigrant Song." Nor is either of those songs in my top 3, but they're definitely high on the list. It's hard to find a Led Zeppelin song that isn't likable--and most rate rather higher than just that. You could choose songs from their body of work at random, and do quite well. That said, I'll recommend that you react to "Since I've Been Loving You" next.

My momma told me they got their name while they were getting stoned staring into the sky and one of the guys said "is that a fucking led zeppelin?" And they stuck with that lol But I think it's some of Jimmy Page occult knowledge being a sinking vessel quite a bit of implication but there ya go? Lol love the reactions bro
