Formed in 1968 and played together till 1980 when drummer John Bonham passed away. There is a video of Kashmir that was filmed in 2007 the drummer is John's son Jason, who better to fill in for his Dad.

A backdoor man is someone who arrives by the back door when the husband has left and leaves by the backdoor before he arrives again. It's a trope from blues music. LZ like to experiment. Hence the unusual middle section.

Enjoyed your reaction to this great Led Zeppelin song. The drummer John Bonham is considered by many (I’d go as far as to say most) people to be the best in rock and roll. The guitar player Jim Page is in the top five, maybe top three rock guitarist of all time. Robert Plant their lead singer and John Paul Jones the bass guitar player are top tier in what they do. They have an endless list of great songs. I recommend Stairway To Heaven and Nobody’s Fault But Mine next. You can’t go wrong with anyone’s recommendation.

The band was from England and this was over 50 years ago. Women usually were housewives and men supported the family. A "backdoor man" referenced a woman's lover leaving out the backdoor before the husband arrived back home. I remember when my mom was stuck at home raising us and our friends moms were home too. So different than now.

Robert Plant lead singer, Jimmy Page lead guitar and producer, John Paul Jones, bass guitar on this tune but plays about 20 instruments, and the greatest drummer ever...the one and only BONZO ....John Bonam. In those days the " back door man" was the side hustle. He went out the back door when the main man came home through the front.

Double-neck guitar typically has 12 strings on one neck and 6 strings on the other--you might play chords on the 12 string neck and then improvise a solo on the 6 string neck.

The 'freak-out' segment in the middle is a _psychedelic_ interlude. Remember this was released in 1969, and the pop music world was still very much in the psychedelic era. It was common to have segments like this in longer songs if not the entire song being a freak-out... This is the official video which you are reacting to. It's actually shorter than the studio version of this song where the psychedelic segment is twice as long and even more of a freak-out. Check it out some time out of curiosity if you haven't already.

Yeah, it's just a combination of videos with the studio version of the song. The live version of this from MSG 1973 is mind blowing! Also, "back door man" is an old phrase used in Blues from the 30's that refers to a cheating woman's lover when she's married. He comes in and leaves through the back door. Of course Robert Plant probably intended the double entendre as well. 🙂

That part/break that you didn’t really care that much about where Plant was groaning was to mimic sex,, an orgasmic type of thing, the song is about doing the wild thing.

Nice reaction. Yeah, the film footage is from many different times. In the 70s, I was a kid and I fucking loved Zeppelin. The drummer, John Bonham, was one of the guys who inspired me to learn drums. I don't know when you recorded this, or if you've done other Led Zeppelin songs, but you should check out "The Song Remains the Same", "Nobody's Fault But Mine", and "Kashmir".

Very odd that you say you have never reacted to led zep before but i have seen your reactions to Achilles last stand and going to california. You were very impressed by those songs - but then instantly forget them. If you are going to get to know a band you really have to allow enough time and attention to absorb the songs otherwise this is a waste of time

Julie Manarin has got the right idea - keep going ... Led Zep aren't a band that only have a few good songs that are worth knowing, there are 8 albums of brilliant tracks, try reacting to some new ones - you won't regret it and they will always get an audience. For a start you could try when the levee breaks , since i've been loving you ( the live version from MSG 1973 always goes down well) and Dazed and confused . Good luck with the channel but much ore important that you find music you like.
