Linda Ronstadt was the number one female artist of the 197o's. Along the way she was instrumental in developing what is known as the California sound. She along with Jackson Browne, J.D.Souther, and the Eagles, who at onetime were her backup band, harnessed the folk, country and rock to create a new music and laid back attitude. She was also defined by the covers of other artist's material. Most notably, TUMBLING DICE by ROLLING STONES ALISON by ELVIS COSTELLO TRACKS OF MY TEARS and OO BABY, BABY by SMOKEY ROBINSON, BLUE BAYOU by ROY ORBISON, HEAT WAVE by MARTHA REEVES &the VANDELLAS, POOR, POOR, PITIFUL ME by WARREN ZEVON, and DESPERADO by EAGLES. The Eagles are known for fiercely guarding their material but respectfully gave her license to record one of their best songs. I think there is even footage of them playing them on the track. It is a crying shame that she is unable to sing anymore. But her body of work remains as to how great she is.

My dad told the story of being in college in the late 70s and his roommate convinced him to go to a Ronstadt concert. He wasn't a fan, but he went. He says she opened the show with "When Will I Be Loved" and he says by the end of it he was screaming "I love youuuuuu, Linda!" He also says that mom's resemblance to her was only a coincidence.

Linda is one of the greatest singers ever, inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. She and Dusty Springfield are noted for doing covers as good or better than the original. Heat Wave, Anyone who had a Heart, Tumbling Dice, That'll be the Day are some examples. Covered Smokey Robinsons Ooo Baby Baby and Tracks of my Tears. Incredible. Also did a duet with him. She sings so soft and sweetly then blares into this gorgeous belting out of amazing sounds that brings me chills and touches my heart. I can relate to the feelings she's able to invoke...and the music itself is relaxing and slow summer sounding. They also played this in one of my fav movies - Man on Fire with Denzel. Most people don't realize that this is a cover of an old Roy Orbison song. Mainly because she really took it and made it hers. She had the softest, silkiest, sexiest voice I have ever heard on stage yet could belt out bangers also. Her vocal range is enough to make ANY vocalist sit back in awe of how wide it is yet she uses it SO effortlessly. It can never be understated exactly how huge she was in the mid to late 70s. No matter what words you try to describe her success, none will come close to the reality of the situation. While all the other guys were pinning up their Farrah posters, I had one of Linda. Facial closeup with an orchid in her hair. That voice and those big brown eyes had me hooked

The live version at a concert is the official video for Blue Bayou. If you want to review it, she takes you where she wants to go. Pure magic. She never did a bad song. She can even sing opera. “Long Long Time” is a country song she sang that is like listening to a violin solo. So beautiful. It’s a sad song, and is so heartfelt that one feels her pain. Linda Ronstadt is actually half Mexican on her father's side. When she grew up, after her American singing career. she sang in a Mariachi band. she had just the right voice to sing that kind of music. I love her singing in the Mexican language.

I agree with previous comments about Ronstadt and her career. I'd like to mention this particular performance was featured in the Denzel Washington film "Man on Fire" as the main character's favorite song.

My favorite song of hers is Prisoner in Disguise. As a matter of fact, that's the title song off my favorite album from her. Fell in love with the back cover art!! LOL
