Don Henley said that The Eagles recorded this and it really didn't go anywhere. Then Linda recorded it and not only did her version take off but it "jump started" their original and really helped put them (The Eagles) on the map. Both Don Henley and Glenn Frye had been playing in Lindas road band. When they told Linda they wanted to form their own band Linda was very instrumental in helping them. She suggested a couple of band members, got them a manager and helped them get their first record deal. A truly remarkable young lady!

The Eagles original version on their LP 'Desperado' was slightly different than the way Linda sang and recorded it, and like you've already pointed out it, Linda's got lots of air play and rose up the charts prompting the Eagles to go and re-record 'Desperado' the way Linda sang it

Linda was the first female to sell out stadium concerts. She will knock your socks off with her powerful vocals, but dont get stuck in her earlier years. She progressed so strongly over the 80s, 90s and 2000s, moving in to different genres and mastering them perfectly. Live performances are always her best. Ive seen her live over a dozen times in small venues like the Trubadore in L.A., large arenas like The Forum to Angel Stadium. My absolute favorite vocalist. I can tell by your eyes that you're a bit smitten. It happens to all of us. Keep digging. All genres. ... rock, pop, country, jazz, light opera, mariachi, afro-cuban, american standards with Nelson Riddle Orchestra, new wave, projects with artists like Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Aaron Neville and even Frank Sinatra. Dont forget in your leisure time to watch her live concerts available on KZbin, especially with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra and Canciones De Mi Padre (Songs Of My Father - Mariachi). .. and I've barely scratched the surface... A very enjoyable reaction! Thanx! Pronounced RON STAT. subscribed.

Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "Blue Bayou", "Long Long Time", "You're No Good", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. Linda also collaborated with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris on a few "Trio" albums.

With Ronstadt it's not just about singing, it;s about interpretation and that's where many of the vocalist divas with high level operatic type skills miss the entire point of singing. it's about the song, the lyrical content and emotion, not the singer.

Congratulations, you’ve just discovered the finest female vocalist of the 70s (tied with Karen carpenter), and one of the most phenomenal female voices of the last 60 years. Strong, clear, full, pure and powerful voice. Her and Karen are on the same tier together. She did so many styles and had success in all of them, including Motown, 30s old standards, operetta, Latin/mariachi, early 80s New wave, rock, pop, folk, country, etc. She has a form of Parkinson’s disease now and can no longer sing whatsoever, but her musical and recording legacy is amazing .

Quite simply the most versatile vocalist this country ever produced. She was one of the first women to headline and carry a tour by herself, and she was the first woman in rock to sell out stadiums. I think starting around 1974, she had five consecutive platinum albums then left it to go do operetta on Broadway. She also put out two best-selling albums of mariachi and Latin music and a couple of albums with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra doing old standards. Sadly, in the late '90s, she developed an affliction like MS, and her vocal cords are practically paralyzed and she doesn't sing anymore.

Suggestions by genre (her biggest chart hit in the genre is listed in parentheses): Ballad - *Long, Long Time* (Blue Bayou); Rock - *Poor Poor Pitiful Me* (You're No Good); Country - *'Willin* (Tracks of My Tears). Her catalog is vast and varied so there are many directions to go in exploring. If you are looking for something in a lower register the song "Down So Low" is a good and aptly named choice. A spotlight for her upper register is "Poor Wandering One" from her time performing in the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta "The Pirates of Penzance" on Broadway. She's ventured into so many genres-folk, country, mariachi, classic popular music from the Great American Songbook, R&B, jazz and on and on. Anything she sang is worth listening to but a few suggestions to start-"I'm a Fool to Want You" (classic pop), "Tumbling Dice" (rock), La Charreda (mariachi), The Sweetest Gift (sung with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris when they recorded the album Trio), and "Long, Long Time" (country).

Her father was an amazing musician in his own right. I lived in Tucson in the 60s and Gilbert Ronstadt was one of the foundations of the city. He ran one of the most popular hardware stores, but in his earlier years he sang and played guitar on radio and everyone said he should have been a professional but he instead chose being a father to his family (Linda has several siblings). Linda sang first with the Stone Poneys and they occasionally cam e back to town from Los Angeles and we would see them at the folk club The Minus One. Everyone knew she was destined for greatness (and she achieved it with great humility too).

Linda did a good number of recordings with Emmy Lu Harris and Dolly Parton, both highly regarded and loved ladies of country music, though she started out in Rock. She wasn't stuck on any one genre though, and wandered anywhere the singing was good, including 40's ballroom ballads and late night broken-heart blues. It's a shame that Parkinson's has taken away the very thing she lived for. If you'd like to hear another charmed female voice from the country genre listen to Allison Krause sing "Ghost In This House". She was declared "Mechanicly, the cleanest voice ever recorded". In other words, always exquisitely on-note and not needing any electronic meddling.

Best Linda songs (though all her songs are awesome!) Blue Bayou is purest gold, and Poor Poor Pitiful Me is very tongue in cheek 😁

What’s New on her Big Band album and Blue Bayou maybe one of the most well known ones. Classic Linda. I sing her stuff for karaoke all the time. She doesn’t have a bad song in the bunch. Silver Threads and Golden Needles is a good example of her early stuff.

I was hoping you would get to listening to Linda Ronstadt! She was the Queen of everything! Her voice is just amazing. She can sing anything. She sang country, rock and roll, a stellar collection of three albums with Nelson Riddle where she covered big band standards, a coloratura soprano turn in Pirates of Penzance, an historic album of Spanish language standards…it goes on and on. She sold out huge arenas and she was the boss at a time when women generally were not in charge of their careers. She was instrumental in the forming of The Eagles (several were her band members). She can sing soft and sweet but she has a powerhouse voice and watch out when she lets it rip (and her growls are beyond great). BLUE BAYOU is certainly one to check out, JUST ONE LOOK is a good song showing range, WHEN WILL I BE LOVED, there are just so many. Most of her songs seem to be recorded for air play so you don’t get really long tracks unfortunately. One of my all-time favorites is the lesser known WHEN I GROW TOO OLD TO DREAM from Living in the USA. Just a beautiful song that always brings a tear to my eye. Her cover of HEAT WAVE is terrific! If you want her theater/movie turn, look at POOR WANDERING ONE from Pirates of PENZANCE. She’s so funny and her voice is like nothing you’ve ever heard her do. For her big band turns, check out WHAT’S NEW or IT NEVER ENTERED MY MIND. Linda is truly the GOAT.

Desperado is one of my favorite songs. Linda brought so much emotion to the song. I like it by the Eagles as well but it didn't go over as well for them when they first released it. People who fell in love with Linda's version sort of gave new life to the Eagles original and they had a hit with it. She was so versatile, country, rock, Mexican Mariachi and even light opera. Among rock singers she was considered to have some of the best pipes in the business and they were spot on. This is in the days before auto tune, you either had it of you didn't and Linda Ronstadt definitely had it.

Linda reminds me of a shark when she performs, her eyes become lifeless as all her senses focus on her vocal output then she finishes and flashes her radiant smile as comes back to the real world. Respect

I think you'd really enjoy Linda's songs "Blue Bayou" (No. 3 pop) and "You're No Good" (No. 1 pop/more of a rocker) and "Don't Know Much" (No. 2 pop ballad duet with Aaron Neville) and "La Charreada" (traditional Mexican ranchero and a kick-ass live performance!) and "What's New?" (her Great American Songbook cover of a 1939 classic) and "When Will I Be Loved?" (No. 1 country and No. 2 pop).

Every single song Linda sings, every single note Linda sings is superb. You should check out her first big hit , with the Stone Ponies Different Drum. One of my other favorites is Long Long Time, and another is High Muddy Water. She'll pin your ears back on that one. I also love Silver Threads and Golden Needles. 👍

The live version of blue bayou is outstanding. La charreada with mariachi Vargas shows off her Mexican music. Top it off with poor wandering one from pirates of Penza it shows her light opera singing.

What's really crazy, is that you could've done the live version - and it would've been just as good, if not better..!
