I was in the small studio audience at the live local NYC broadcast of the Labor Day Telethon in the fall of 72. Looking Glass performed this song live for us. It was pretty cool to see them do it while the song was hot. (yes, I'm 70)

After I retired, I got a part time job at a grocery store. There were 3 girls named Brandi, all pretty young. Over time in the break room I asked them if they knew this song? Two of them told me they were named after it. It must have made an impression on the parents (who would have been my age).

I'm 72 and in 1963 John Wayne starred in a movie called Hatari. There was a female actress named Brandy. Iloved the name and then this song came out 10 yrs later and brought the name back into my head. In '78 my wife and I named our baby girl Brandi.

Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) is a great song & was the biggest hit for Looking Glass in 1972. They also released the song "Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne" the next year. But didn't do too much else after that.

A good counterpoint to this sweet song would be "Rene (the dockers delight)" by the Small Faces off their masterpiece album Ogden's Nut Gone Flake. "It's Rene, the dockers delight. Her ship's in everynight groping with a stoker from the coast of Kuala Lumpur Love is like a hole in the wall, a line up in the warehouse no trouble at all If you have the money, you'll have a ball She'll have your oars out!" A much happier ending for all, and a rockin song to boot. Warning: a bit risque 🤭😉

I'm not 100% but I'm 99.99% Looking Glass was a one hit wonder, their still in the music industry but behind the scenes. This is why I love your channel because you pay attention to the lyrics and know what the music is about. I heard one reactor say it was a good song but he doesn't believe in affairs 😮 HOW THE HELL DO YOU HAVE AN AFFAIR ON A SEA!!!! Another reactor said "it's sad that she couldn't be with the man she loved but at least she found another man who was good to her and even bought her jewelry" I had to smack myself on the side of my head to uncross my eyes. Another great reaction to a song from my teen yrs. WHERE EVERYDAY WAS A DANCE PARTY TO AWESOME MUSIC!!

I don’t see it that way. I was named after this song by my grandfather, but he died right before I was born. He said that if I was a girl that my parents had to name me Brandy because it was the most beautiful name in the world. She was special and rare. She was down to earth. She had beautiful eyes that couldn’t hide a thing. She was honest, and respected honesty. Being lied to is cruel. She was the real deal, and that was obvious to the people she spent time with. She was passionate, but she was also a realist. He was honest. He couldn’t give to her what she needed because he didn’t have it to give. She had no choice but to accept it. It didn’t make her love him less. So she lived her life alone. What other choice was there? What a waste of love. And what the sailors were saying was that it was just a shame that she was a special girl who was going to waste her life on nothing.
