In the 60s, 70s and 80s there was so much variety. Everyone wanted to create their own sound. No autotune, no pitch correction just imagination and pure talent.

Madness, The English Beat, Selecter, The Specials and Bad Manners were part of this 80s ska revival. I would recommend The English Beat next with Save It For Later, Mirror in the Bathroom and their ska version of the Motown classic Tears of a Clown.

Call me a curmudgeon but I feel that The English Beat should just be referred to as The Beat...however I am a great fan of the English Specials...but don't get me started on the French Selector anf German Bad Manners...
@andybaker2456
@andybaker2456 2 күн бұрын
@laylasean-u3n As much as it hurts to hear them referred to as "The English Beat", I understand they had to use that name in the US as they already had a band named The Beat. Similarly, their band The Spinners were known initially here in the UK as "The Motown Spinners" because we already had a band called The Spinners. Then when they left Motown for Atlantic Records, they were known here as "The Detroit Spinners" instead.

Their catalogue is epic. From the early ska heavy prince buster to the perfect pop, yet lovely observations on uk life. Michael Caine, grey day, Tomorrow’s ( just another day ) cardiac arrest with their darker tones to the mad crowd pleasers house of fun, driving in my car, one step beyond. The nutty boys never failed to deliver. It’s why they gave that chart week record 😊

All of the songs by Madness have humorous videos. They were part of what is called 2 Tone ska because ska was the primary type of music released on 2 Tone Records, a label begun by Jerry Dammers of the ska band, The Specials.
