Madonna is the highest selling female recording artist of all time with 350 million records sold worldwide. She is no one hit wonder. She is also ranked as the No.1 female artist on the billboard chart with 12 no.1 singles and 38 top 10 hits all before the streaming era. Are true legend and icon. The queen of pop Madonna 😊

Yes this was controversial back in 86 we weren't talking about teen pregnancy. Actually dismissing it and Madonna decided it was time to bring it out and start talking about it. It was controversial but at the same time she was praised for forcing the public to talk about it for the first time

True. We didn't have any form of daycare or online courses available in the 80's. Coming to school pregnant was a big deal, and your only other option was to just drop out.

It would've been far more controversial if she decided to abort/kill the baby.

I was a teenager when this song came out. It was definitely controversial. Dolly Parton had a song in either the late ‘60’s or early’70’s along the same lines. It’s called Down From Dover. They wouldn’t play it on the radio because the subject was so taboo.

I was a teen during the 80s and my eyes were usually glued to MTV. When Madonna dropped this video it felt like an instant classic, and it became clear to everyone that she would be around for awhile.

LOL! A song doesn't feel like a classic when it's new.

@@thebeardedseeker5633 I'll concede that the music video would have a visually classic feel when it was released, but not audibly. I was addressing the song itself. The song was a new & very different sound back then & saying that it had an instant classic feel is a contradiction IMO. New sounding music isn't thought of as classic until at minimum 2 decades after it's introduced.

This was definitely a song that blew my mind when it first came out. Teen pregnancy was something that adults would sweep under the rug and it would all go away. Instead of teaching protection, because kids will experiment, the church would always try to convince that abstinence is what's best. Till this day, abstinence does not work as a whole. Madonna made sure the topic was brought to the forefront and discussion would take place. Just as she did for folks suffering from the AIDS/HIV crisis, LGBTQIA community, for racial equality, women's rights, and for sexual freedom. Sadly these days, this amazing icon has been shunned by the communities she has stood by for throughout her career, simply for her age. Ageism is another form of discrimination towards a group of people. In my eyes, art has no gender and no age limit. She continues the fight and I continue to be a die hard fan. I have been since back in the eighties! I look forward to seeing more of your journey through Madonna's discography. So many to choose from, so many to admire, so many to stand in disbelief. Suggestions that immediately pop into my head: Erotica, American Life (the uncensored video version ), Frozen, God Control, Human Nature, Killers Who Are Partying, Crave, and Masterpiece... just to name a few. It's just you have tremendous works from a discography that spans over 40 years, there's a lot to listen!

I used to have 2 giant posters of Madonna on my wall back in '86. One was with her original look and the other was with this look. I loved them both. I knew it wasn't cool for a dude to have posters of Madonna on his wall but I didn't care -- I thought she was so hot! I did have a girl tell me it was cool, though, so...

This video was my life as a teen. I was blessed with Awesome parents. Not that it wasn't hard for them, at first. My dad took it better than my mom. But mom came around relatively quickly. RIP Mom and Dad! I Love you!! Danny Aiello played her father in the video. He was an Awesome Seasoned Actor. RIP Danny!!

This was a huge deal because she called out the elephant in the room. We had a couple of teen moms in high school in 1981. Life wasn't at all comfortable or easy for them. Young pregnancies happen. Stop hiding it and shaming them, it fixes nothing. Love them.

Such a cool and compassionate reaction. You have got a great way of approaching life and I wish I had your positivity and spirit to approach life and all its monumental ups and downs. I admire that. I am 40 years old and feel beaten down and defeated to the point of not existing anymore. And Madonna has been my motivator and inspiration since I was a young kid. She has always been there somewhere giving me hope and strength and courage through her art and no nonsense personality and fierce spirit. I literally owe my life to this amazing woman and what she has instilled in me. This song was massive. Worldwide it was the most successful song of 1986 and the album it was from ruled the planet and sold 40 million copies making it the most successful album by a female artist in the 80's. Religious groups and the moral majority were burning her albums after this song came out calling her an instigator of teenage pregnancies blah blah. Missing and ignoring the point and main problem entirely as usual. Great reaction man. Maybe do La Isla Bonita next. You will love the song.j
