Yes, welcome to Home Free, all acapella, no instruments at all. Masters of all musical genres. They won the 4th season of the Sing Off in 2013. Their covers are upgrades, their medleys are brilliant, their collaborations with the original artists are inspirational, and their original songs are masterpieces. Within this 5 man vocal band you have 5 tenors, 5 beat boxers, and 2 bass-baritones. All of them can sing lead and they choose depending on whose voice best fits the song. They can do just about anything and they continue to grow and improve, yet they remain so humble. When they have featured guest artist, they support and allow their featured artists to shine. Several of them have their own channels and do some solo work. And just for fun Rob and Austin sing Opera. What else can I say? Their catalogue of work is quite large and continues to grow. You are in for an exciting journey and the Home Fries will be there for you all the way.

My cheat sheet that I like to share with those new to HF....I'll be subbing to follow your journey down this rabbit hole. I appropriated this summary from another comment. The group started in 2001 by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp They won The Sing Off season 4 2013 that's where they became very popular. They are the only country A Capella ( all vocals no instruments)group but they are honestly do so so much more than just country music they can sing any genre and they do. There is no Lead singer in the group. They each ( except Adam )sing the song and who’s ever voice or voices sound right for the song gets the lead unless is a bass/ baritone song then that’s Tim or Chance. A lot of time they each have a part in the song. Fans of Home Free are known as Home Fries and are very loyal to the guys. Adam Rupp: Beatboxer Extraordinaire ( 41) can make any sound imaginable (A whole drum kit, harmonica (his Nomonica we call it )plane flyovers, trains, castanets, bugs ,birds etc).Co founder from Mankato Minnesota. Rob Lundquist :Lead tenor(beard and glasses) ( 40 )very soulful voice and master whistler from Minneapolis, Minnesota Tim Foust :Bass (had long dark hair now short with grey ) ( 42 ) 5+ octave range can go so low he blows speakers or sky high from Nederland, Texas Austin Brown: High Tenor ( Long wavy hair )( 37 ) voice of an angel from Tifton Georgia. Adam Chance(Aka Chance):Baritone/Bass ( 39 ) deep, rich voice(Does the juice harp sound in Man Of Constant Sorrow) has short dark hair short beard from Baldwin County, Alabama. Home Free is incredible. Everything they do is great. And although they are a Country A-cappela group, they can really sing all genres. They really all have great voices with their own specialties. Even Adam Rupp who started the group with his brother Chris Rupp. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo but also to start other projects with his sister, among others. Adam Rupp-Beatboxer but is actually an inhuman freaking good mouth artist. (Hear the incredible no-monica) Tim Foust- Deep bass but also as a tenor and everything in between is possible. Austin Brown-High tenor with his great runs and high notes. (leaves in the Fall Home Free😢, and is then replaced by Tenor Adam Bell-Bastien👍🏽) Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses)-Tenor, with a voice like velvet and so much soul. Adam Chance (back left, who is called Chance) - Baritone/ Bass, a voice so smooth and sexy. And who here also makes the Jaw harp sound. There is no permanent lead singer in Home Free. They look at every song whose voice suits it best, the best harmony, no egos, no rivalries, great personalities etc. Besides, they can all beatbox (see their live performance 9to5). .. This is one of the many covers they do in addition to various originals, and each one is just amazing. Take the time to discover Home Free because it will be a great tour. For me they are number 1 A-Cappella group

I see those Home Free smiles. 5 extremely talented guys. Their catalog is very deep and varied. Everything from country to pop to rock to R&B to sacred - even a little opera from the tenors. Adam Rupp, the percussionist is fabulous. I'm always surprised when reactors go to this song first because, as great as it is, it isn't even in my top ten from them. I recommend Helplessly Hoping, Stand By Me or their original Playing With Fire next - but you really can't go wrong with anything they've done. Enjoy the ride!

Home Free is fantastic. While they do a lot of country covers, they can and do) cover other genres as well. I recommend "End of the Road" (cover of the Boyz II Men) song, the "Sea Shanty Medley" (where Adam, their beat boxer, "plays" the castanets), "How Great Thou Art" (an old Christian hymn; filmed in the Austrian Alps--scenery and music breathtaking; you don't have to be a Christian or religious to enjoy and appreciate this) and Rob's and Austin's (the two tenors) cover of "Nessun Dorma" (from Puccini's "Turandot"; even confirmed "opera haters" like this cover). So they sing everything from country, to pop, to sea shanties, to hymns, to opera. And they're fabulous at all of it. At Christmas, their cover of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" is a must. I have a box of tissues at hand every time I watch it; still cry every time I see it.
@timhuffmaster35883 ай бұрын
The instrument that you first hear is called a “juice harp”. It’s recreated by using the tongue against the teeth and moving most of the resonance to the front of the mouth. The “beatboxer” describes finding the “harmonica” sound by starting with the voice of Cartman, from South Park, and using his hand pressure to manipulate the resonant space within the mouth. They’re a very cool a’capella group. Enjoy the rabbit hole. 😉

There's also Pentatonix please react to voice play and the bass gang. Pentatonix 1 the sing off the 3rd season And in 2011 and home free won it follow the following season in 2013. Voice play as best as I remember took 4th place the season that home free won. The instrument you were referring to is called a Jewish harp. It has other names but that's the 1 that really sticks with me. Home free has a wicked sense of humor. They have no problem making fun of themselves and being silly As well As performances that you just Reacted to. Yes Is in O. brother where art thou. There is a video titled 2 country singers try to sing opera. It is Austin brown who was the main singer in this video and rob lundquist with the beard and the mustache. They are singing nessum dorma. There is truly nothing that home free can't do With the exception of a bad song.

You did, indeed, remember MOCS from the 2000 movie "O Brother Where Art Thou," but Home Free didn't exist until 2001. The song was written and published in 1913, but not recorded until 1928 (i.e., after the development of the recording equipment that made mass distribution of music possible!)
@patriciab88763 ай бұрын
Though published in 1913 by Dick Burnett, who did not compose it, this song is an old American Folk Song. It was old when published - he just put it to paper - which then enabled him to earn from its use. Prior to that it was learned "by ear" having originated in & around Kentucky, Tennessee and thereabouts.
@rcinsley3 ай бұрын
@@patriciab8876 I read that someone interviewed Dick Burnett later in life and asked him whether he was the original author. He said he couldn't remember...maybe yes, maybe no. So absent any other hard evidence, "traditional American folk song" is as close as we'll get. The first known recording of the song was the May 1928 release by Emry Arthur - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2qUenWZm9Fmf8U
@patriciab88763 ай бұрын
@@rcinsley Of course he wouldn't admit that he had basically stolen the song! Why would he put his bread and butter in jeopardy? His word should not be the one deciding whether he had composed it. A thorough search of libraries and historical accounts, particularly those in Kentucky, Tennessee and thereabouts seeking to uncover evidence should be where the answer to that comes from. Not from the suspected perpetrator.

Seriously if you are interested just search Home Free, find a song of a genre you like and you will not be disappointed. They won the Sing Off in 2013. This is a deep rabbit hole worth investigating. Not suggesting you react to every song. You will find they tailor the songs to the best voice of the group that matches . Examples: boys to men - End of the Road, Man of Constant Sorrow, Brothers in Arms, Hopelessly Hoping (Crossby Stills & Nash), Go Rest High on that Mountain, How Great Thou Art, American Pie ft. Don McLean, God Bless the U.S.A. (featuring Lee Greenwood and The United States Air Force Band), Original Home Free What's Left Of My Heart, Mary Did You Know, When a Man Loves a Woman, The Butts Remix, Listen To The Music and the list goes on...... Quite a few genres listed above to provide a cross section. They are not just Country, they do sing quite a bit of it, but these boys are gifted beyond country and tackle whatever they choose and do it with excellence, they do not do anything half assed. subscribed ❣

Caution: Home Free is highly addictive. There are no instruments - Adam Rupp (beatboxer) is incomparable. They're all vocal chameleons. The bass (Tim) has 5+ octaves, the baritone (Chance) has 4. There is no lead singer, whoever sounds best on a song, sings lead. Three of them are song writers - they sing (and write) in almost every genre from goofy to gospel, feel-good to opera ("Nessun Dorma"). Fall down the rabbit hole - it's a great trip!

This song blew me away when I first heard it & I was completely hooked. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there (5 octave range) & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound such as drums, harmonica etc. They are my favorite a cappella group. This song is very old (about 100 yrs.) & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.
