"Muriel plays piano" Muriel was a real older lady he met while he was on this trip to Memphis that inspired the song. He was in the bar watching her play, like really insanely talented, but no one else was really paying attention to her. So he went over to talk to to her, she played for her church and did the bar gig on the side. She appreciated him coming over so much she asked him to sing with her. I love that story.

I read an interview with her son. He talks about watching his mama play with Count Basie in his living room. Awesome lady from what I’ve read.

It is a true story - you need to get yourself up to Memphis, good times abound. When he says ‘Reverend Green will be good to see you’ he means the great Al Green. ‘The Hollywood’ was ‘Raiford’s Hollywood’ downtown a few blocks from Beale street. Beale was the first Black owned business district in the U.S. where the first black owned bank was. It’s the place where so many great musicians arrived to get to.

Beale Street is a famous street right "in the thick of things" in Memphis. So I think he's implying that he was right "in the heart" of Memphis, and being there made him feel like he was walking on air.

This is a tribute to Elvis!! I worked at Elvis Presley's Memphis in 2003 and people came from all over the world just to see Graceland and be in places that Elvis was in all over Memphis! These fans were genuinely interested in every thing that Elvis was around!! Too bad the corporate people didn't see that!! They only saw $$ signs!!

Hey Shavon Marc was married to ABC news journalist Elizabeth Vargas from 2002 - 2014. They split up in 2014 just days after Vargas got out of rehab for alcoholism for a third time. Also in 2005 Marc was shot in the head during an attempted carjacking while on tour with Suzanne Vega in Denver Colorado. He survived and was released from the hospital after 8 hrs of observation.
